Greg Ferris

Anyone know him? Anyone know why he "left" ATP? I was dealing with him for awhile... up until about a month ago. I called (JAX call center) today, and the "other" Greg said Ferris had not been there for like 6 months.

Um... :dunno: .....

....

Then... who was I talking to that was saying they were Greg Ferris?

And BTW --- Today I found out the 141 program took another DECREASE!! 39K now. Vets are responsible for about 14,9K (plus checkride fees and housing).

Hey USRaven! You must have been talking to Greg C...he is also prior USAF and a great guy. If there is anything I can help you out with, feel free to ask!

-Greg F

I had some issues with an individual who worked there - situational, caused a lot of stress that was unneeded. I truly feel this individual was in a position with more power than he should have and exploited it in indirect ways.

I think I know who you're talking about...if so, agreed.

ATP is by far the best flight school out there for civilian flight training, so please don't take my situation and blame ATP for it. There are a multitude of highly dedicated individuals at HQ (Jim, Phil, Paul, Ben, Mike, Greg C, James, Justin, Courtney, Kathy, Kellen, Steve, Chris, Shelley, Jessica, Kurt, Carl, Jenny, Dana, and Eric to name a few :))

I agree with you 99%.

Good luck to you with your degree. I'd like to do the same soon.

Thanks mxflyer! If you are interested in engineering, feel free to ask. It seems all I have in my head these days are computational fluid dynamics equations floating around...:D

I did forget to mention someone in my previous post...Robert! If ATP did not have an excellent maintenance director and staff, then all would be lost!

By the way, talk about one heck of an r/c helo pilot

I dealt with Robert for over a year and a half I guess.. Never could quite figure that guy out. One day happy and talkative cracking jokes on each other about MX vs pilots. Next day, total ass. :dunno:

I never really got to interact with Robert during work hours since I was at HQ, but outside of work, he is a really nice, laid back guy. I know for a fact he has a lot of pressure on him at ATP since he heads up their Mx operations...it could have just been his outlet for stress (doesn't mean it's the best way, but it may have just been his way).

I'm pretty sure Ben is still there. I know for sure that they just recently got rid of the training center managers from Jacksonville Craig and Daytona Beach

Did they get rid of John Amico? I thought they just moved him to a sales position?

Yes, but he is no longer the chief pilot. He sacrificed himself so some other people could keep their jobs. He is strictly giving checkrides as a DPE. I know some people have a poor opinion of him, but i think he is a great guy!

Ditto. He's a lot of fun, too, outside the cockpit!

I flew with Rich once as a student (he was a CFI not a DPE at the time), it wasn't really that bad. I unplugged his mic and then just went through all the maneuvers he told me we were going to do, then flew back to the airport and landed. He didn't replug his mic in so I guess he approved of that method. He's actually rather funny.

But I don't think he sacrificed his job in some great act of selflishness, that may have been a small part of it but I would imagine that the flexibility of being a DPE with a reliable amount of students coming through is much more desirable than being a CP -- and you're done by 12-1PM everyday.

Yeah but he was doing both until he decided to step aside. He was also a DPE for Silver State helicopters untl they filed for bankruptcy and ran off with everyone's money. He was making a ton of cash doing Silver States checkrides, now he has to split them with Ernie Strange.

I did my private ride with Rich. He said that he took a LOA for 30 days so that he could take some financial pressure off ATP. Then at the end of the month they asked him to extend his LOA. I guess its become indefinite.

Good to hear from you Greg. You and Devlin were about the only things that made the call center fun.

Rich honestly wasn't that bad when I flew with him. Yeah he made alot of comments but I think thats his whole schtick, as long as you ignore it and fly well the debrief is where you find out what he is really like.
