Greensboro, NC Runway

Anyone know if the new runway at GSO is open? I looked at the airnav page and the FAA diagram changed the runway from closed to open, and with me landing there tonight, I'd like to land on the new runway if it's open.

I live right there by the airport and as far as I know, it is not open yet.

A friend of mine just went by the end of the runway, the "X" is still up.

I also have checked/asked about this.

The FSS people said it has been NOTAM'ed open, then closed again (most likely due to FAA testing).

At the moment it is still closed, the X's are still up on both ends.

I've also heard that there is now a "Tower visibility" issue on some parts of the runway, and that it may play some role in a delay for it opening.

Out of curiosity, why would you want to land on that runway? It's like three miles from nowhere.

When we were on the way to lunch with some Atlantic Aero people, they mentioned that it was built to accommodate the FDX airplanes going to their new facility.

I just heard on the news this morning that the runway is opening today, 1-27-2010.

If I remember correctly it has been open, but there were no taxiways from the runway to anywhere else. Big old touch and go runway.

There is a taxiway, the runway was built for Fedex

Runway / Taxiways are open and taking traffic.

As i was driving to commute for work yesterday evening, I noticed an ExpressJet ERJ landing on 23R, then taxied back-made it to the gate about the same time i got to the employee lot.
