Well i borrowed the book from the library and figured let me see if i can pick this up naturally. I have a couple questions about how the CD compares to the actually test.
1. ON the ATST portion of the test this seemed difficult to keep the planes from crashing and almost impossible to land in the E and F runways. Anyone else have difficulty with this???
2. On the math portion of the test everything is listed in KPH not MPH will the speeds on the actual AT-SAT be in MPH??? Not that this is difficult but the conversion just takes a little longer.
3. ALSO THE LETTER FACTORY IS A BIT CONFUSING.
4. dials portion will not even start up, which is strange.
5. Scan test sometimes has the same answer for A B C ???? guess this is a trick
thanks any insight would be helpful.

1. make sure you download the Update for the cd...otherwise the ATST is impossible.... http://www.asa2fly.com/product1.aspx?SID=1&Product_ID=714& (update is to the right of the picture)
2. everything on the test is in MPH. i have an AMAZING math study guide that i can send you (ive sent it to about 20 people on this forum already and they said they like it a lot). it teaches you exactly what you need to know to do the type of math required on the AT-SAT, and i will guarantee you will get EVERY question right.
3. letter factory on the cd is MUCH harder then on the test, but the questions that pop up out of no where are MUCH harder on the test then the cd. (plus 4 questions pop up on the test..not 1). but if you can get good at the one on the cd you should be good for the test.
4. i dont know why the dials wont open up, but that is by far the easiest part of the test because the answer is on the dials.
5. i dont know what you mean about the A,B,C for the scan test. the scan test is where you have to type in the planes Number to clear it from the screen.

any other questions let me know.

Dont sweat it....
1. on the test there are fewer planes on the screen and there is a significant delay...the planes do not move continuously and furthermore they do not arc they can make perfect 180 degree turns. Its fun on the test
2. No conversions, use the math problems INSIDE the book, but no pencil and paper.
3. Its F'ed up. On the test the only thing that is somewhat hard is the 'awareness questions' Use the cd for those questions and the fundamentals of the idea of the test.
4. Those are easy and you dont need to practice. If you can tell how fast you are driving you can do this portion of the test easy.
5. dont know what you mean....but on the real test the stuff is not so random.

To conclude dont sweat it.

Generally speaking, the practice CD was more difficult than the actual AT-SAT. Don't worry about learning exactly how that CD works because the test will have some minor differences. As long as you know and understand the rules and procedures for each section of the test, you will do fine because it was not at all overwhelming like I thought it would be. I may have had at one point or another 10-12 aircraft on the ATST screen at one time, but you have seven seconds between screen updates. To me the hardest part of the whole thing were the situational awareness questions on the Letter Factory. No matter how observant I tried to be the questions would always seem to pop up right when my mind was focusing on something else.

hey guys thanks for the responses i am sure i will have more questions later on . I guess i will have to get the up date because impossible was defintely the way to explain it.
HEY BIPPOPTL I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE THE STUDY GUIDE . i WORK IN CENTEREACH GO FIGURE!
Sorry not the scan part of the test but, the math multiple choice answer had the same answer for two or three of the choices on some questions..

bippoptl would you mind also sending me that email about the math? I have my PEPC next week in LA for Terminal in Nevada. I took the test last Dec, but I am constantly trying to maintain my knowledge. New material would be greatly appreciated.

I must agree with all the advise about the "Green Book." I had several books and on my first break from the test I ran to my car to call my mom because I had studied the right one. Another thing about the test is you have NO idea how you did till you get the results. I was doing great for the first 3/4 of the day. Then when I got to the Scan test I thought I flunked horribly. I crashed 3 planes in the last scan. Yikes!!! It was also quite freaky with the headphones so loudly announcing it to the entire room. 2 weeks later I saw my score online...first I saw PASS then as my teary eyes wandered to the left of the screen a 90.2. Not only did I pass I made it into the 90s....just barely, but hey folks I was a Stage Manager for 7 years!!!!!

I just found these blogs in the past 2 weeks. I have been running solo and blind for the past year not even knowing there were others out there like me....wondering and waiting and going through all the highs and lows of emotion. I am so happy to have found you guys and I have learned so much about what to expect for the interview. Thanks for all your information and I hope to see you at the Academy in the near future.

I had some similar problems on my vista machine. Are you running yours on vista? the cd works much better on a xp machine. other than that I found that the cd was helpful in helping me get an idea of what the test was like. Deffinately try and use it as much as possible to become familiar with how the tests are. the rules will be explained when you take the atsat. once I knew the rules for the test everything fell into place. Good luck.

I also run Vista, and it didn't work well for me until I downloaded the update (it's posted around here a few times), and then it was fine.

Personally, I think this cd is maddening. And not because of the content of the tests, but because of the functionality. On the ATS test the spot were you click is WAY to small. I end up wasting so much time finding the spot to click, and sometimes when you think you've clicked a plane and put in the coordinates, it turns out you never successfully clicked it at all. Its awful. Sometimes the damn planes don't do what you tell them to do either.(Anything like the real thing?:laff:) You should be able to click anywhere on the icon to highlight it.

If my stupid mouse would work properly I would not be concerned at all. Ive tried adjusting every setting on it there is. Maybe its just me??:banghead: The delay caused by a clicking error makes for a horrible score, for me anyways.

I don't think the test should be based on your ability to click and drag things with the tiniest point of contact on the planet.

Kinda that same thing with the Letter factory. To actually catch a letter and drag it to the box is without it snapping back to the line or without missing the letter entirely is a miracle. If you bring a box you need out of storage and it snaps back, forget it. You've missed 3 letters.
I just wish the click spots were easier to get, or once you click a letter it went to the first available spot rather then having to drag it. (perhaps that would defeat the purpose of the test though....)

Another thing I'd like to complain about is this. Its when your in the middle of moving a letter or box and the question pops up. I have no problem answering the question. Its that when you answer it, whatever item you had selected goes back where it was and you have to go get it again! I don't like to have to do things twice. I would like to do them correctly the first time, every time.
If you know what needs to be done, and you tell it to be done, that is what the measurement should be. Not how well you can point and click.
