Great Dallas eateries for families?

Near (or in, depending on how you interpret the map) White Rock is an area called Lakewood and it's probably the only neighborhood I'd like to live in if I had to move back to Dallas. It's got lots of mature old trees, it's at least partially walkable (compared to the rest of the city) and it has much more of a "local" feeling than a lot of Dallas. There are some GREAT places to eat (Legal Grounds is a coffee shop/law library with outstanding whole-grain banana pancakes, for example) and the Lakewood Theater gets a lot of acts that bigger stages won't carry. I've seen Richard Thompson there a couple times.

Lakewood is great...but more expensive than Southlake...can't find a decent house under 500K

I would recommend Plano, Frisco, The Colony, Lewisville, Grapevine, Carrolton and if you don't mind the drive Mckinney

Trophy Club is nice and cheaper than Southlake, however it'll be a very long haul to Love from there. I'd skip Carrolton entirely really.

Coppell is nice with lots of newer cookie cutter neighborhoods if thats your thing.

I've always enjoyed Tarrant co well over Dallas co.

Up north we have places like Ryan Homes and Ryland Homes that were basically those "cookie cutter" floor plans with a handful of options you could choose from. Probably looking for something like that, as I am cheap. Anybody know if there's anything like that? Trophy Club area is ideal as it is near the school my wife likes for the kiddo. Not worried about the haul to Love as I'll only be making it once a week.

With the construction on the north side of DFW near complete, Trophy Club to DAL is an easy commute (30 min or less). Unless of course, you're attempting to do it during rush hour - then forget it. But, commuting ANYWHERE during rush hour is an absolute nightmare in the metroplex.

I'm not familiar with the property taxes in Trophy Club, so give them a look. Without a state tax, our property taxes can very GREATLY from municipality to municipality.

For what it's worth, a few folks I work with live up there and they love it.

Have they taught you the most important SWA radio transmission yet? ;)

Hmm. Depends on what parts of Lakewood and what you consider decent. My wife searches regularly (we've considered moving back for a while and her hobby is knowing the neighborhoods) and we found a bunch of 3/2, 1500 sq feet (approx) for mid-to-high 350K at the most.

I think a lot of it is personal preference. While the places you mention above are fine for lots of folks, they aren't my cup of tea anymore.

In Dallas (and Fort Worth) there is a vegan diner called the Spiral Diner. I was willing to try new things, it was pretty tasty stuff and I'd go back to the place. And I'm an avowed carnivore.

Depending on your views on tattoos, piercings and gauging, the place was very friendly and not quite inexpensive. I'd take my kids, but they're three and would be staring a lot a many of the clientele. But if you want something different, seek this place out.
