I know a least 3 people on a personal level who sincerely believe in chemtrails.

I have a friend who despite my explanations of contrails is a firm believer, it's more fun and less aggravating to subtly fan the flames of his obsession. Drop a hint every once in a while and watch him spin.

A shame, too, because the anti-vaxxers are the only ones that can cause serious harm to people. The rest are harmless for the most part.

My guess is that this kind of stuff is an artifact of the ultra-safe society we live in. Otherwise these people would get eaten by the local fauna or fall prey to nature's other perils.

Problem is, that these people were vaccinated by their parents when they were children, so they are protected. It's their children that they put at risk. by not getting them the shots.

It goes far beyond that. They put all of society at risk. Immigrants and children not yet immunized, immuno-compromised individuals, the elderly and those that have a legitimate allergies to the vaccines. Their idiotic actions cause real pain, suffering and even death.

Immunizations depend on "herd immunity" to check the spread of pathogens. What that does is check the ability of pathogen to spread outside it's localized area. Once the level of immunization drops to a certain level, pathogens can "break out" and spread rapidly. Further, herd immunity protects those that can't be protected.

There is some really bad stuff that has been eradicated through aggressive immunization like polio & smallpox. Ordinary stuff like measles and mumps are bad enough, and can be crippling if they get pumped up and go the distance. You think the flu spreads? It's a piker compared to measles, which has almost a 95% transmission rate.

I don't get too wrapped up around the axel about many things, but this is one. Vaccines have done more to improve human (and animal) health & longevity than anything else by several orders of magnitude. The next thing on the list isn't even close.
