holy crap those are awesome.

Reminds me of the time, when i used to go to plane view park in queens, and just sit there the entire day, and take pics of jets coming in for runway 4 @ Klga

I'll be out there next week! I'm definetly hitting up Gravelly! What type of lens should I bring? I have a 55mm and can borrow a 100-300mm or rent a 200-400mm.

All of these were with my 70-200. 200 was actually a little on the long side for the aircraft as they pass overhead. You're close enough that you can feel the wake vorticies after they pass. The 100-300 will be perfect. If you have a ultra wide angle, which my 10-22 is, you may try getting a Maho Beach style shot by standing directly under final near the fence/bike path. I thought about trying it, but I was too lazy to walk back to the car.

3:45-4:00 is the absolute earliest I would suggest going in regards to lighting. That's a good time for traffic also. I drove in on from IAD on the toll road, and I only sat in traffic for about 5 minutes.

Nice pics! I was down there a little over a month ago out on a boat. Parked in the inlet for a bit and watched the jets land over us, awesome time!! Only had a crappy point and shoot so the pics are no where near as good as yours.

We did get to see the presidential helicopters doing touch and goes at an old base across the river. Later that day all three of his helicopters came flying up at around 500 feet and one broke off towards the White House. Was cool to see.

Great area for jet watching!

Eh... You just missed me. We came down the river at 6:50pm.

My FO was flying and he made a *very* nice approach if I do say so myself.

Barring bad weather or a schedule change, I'll be back out on Monday, August 10th. This time I'll have a full battery so I can stay longer. Wave if you fly by.

Well that settles it. I'll be sure to be out there on Monday morning. What's your tail number?
