Government shutdown

Every government shutdown in the last 60 years was when there was a Republican controlled congress. Every. Single. One.
the highlighted portion in the article. And remember, this is Karl Rove on Fox News saying this.

I totally remember when the much-vilified squad shut down the government because they were mad at the world.

Trying to frame both sides as equally dysfunctional is just silly.

Currently Republicans have an excellent chance of winning a Trifecta in Virginia this November. They may throw that chance away if their co-partisans in Congress shut down the Government and make the Old Dominion's many federal employees work without pay. The 2013 Government Shutdown most likely delivered Terry McAuliffe to the Executive Mansion. It ended up being the first time in 4 decades and the last time to date that the President's party won a Governor election in Virginia.

Meh. Republicans are kings at snatching defeat from any hope of victory. They enjoy playing the political loser card.

This embodies the whole GOP platform so perfectly. And btw Rep Williams is a multi-millionaire

This is most infuriating part of the whole government shutdown is that congress exempts itself from everything they impose on the rest of us. If ATC has to go without a paycheck so should they. As an independent who hates both parties with equal disgust it's a wonder why I don't vote anymore.

Friends of Russia complained enough and removing $6B for Ukraine got their agreement for a 45-day continuation (Nov 15th).

Sorry. It sucked being a kid of parents that went though a few bouts of "Hopefully Bank of America is going to honor the voucher this week, but lets start 'rolling change' just in case they don't.".

We'd end up pooling all of the pocket change around the house, sitting at the grocery table and effectively 'rolling quarters' to take down to the bank to get paper currency to go buy food during the IOU/voucher period.

10 pound bag of pinto beans, some 'throw away' ham hocks (which were super cheap before FoodNetwork 'discovered' hem) and tortillas, we were good for a couple weeks between bean soup, chili and really sad burritos.

Thanks politicians. Hope they get their sound bites and Twitter 'owns'

Coming from a Black man in a nation with a grand history of racial stereotyping, that's kinda rich.

THIS! This is why all us folks get what we get. And This is why it will only get worse for future generations unless we start fixing ourselves real quick like.

Our own lazy generalizations and unquestioned assumptions are what are allowing ALL of us to get twatwaffled.

Politicians are not some sort of megalith. They are individuals. Some are very dishonest and speak with forked tongues. Some are country-club-mobbed up. Some are billionaire-boys-club-mobbed up. At least one is straight up cosa-nostra-mobbed up.

But many are good, decent people fulfilling the ultimate expression of OUR civic duty.

The Devil and the Angels are always in the details. A citizenry that does not know the details - or even care that they don't know the details - or even know that they should care that they know the details - is precisely why we are getting what we are getting right now.

Should I generalize about my income on my tax return and then just generally blame the IRS for my fine?
Should I generally land on a wet, short runway, and then generally blame runways for my overrun? Thanks, runways!

It won't get better until we start caring, get smarter, and stop generalizing.

Two things.

1) What?
2) Why are people so excited to point out that @derg is black all of a sudden?

Good. Now remove the entire thing.

Doesn’t make me “garbage” for saying that. Ukraine isn’t NATO, we don’t owe them jack.

Kept their airspace opened above FL320 just to collect overflight fees March 2014, despite knowing they lost their own AN-22 at FL220 that was hit by a SAM. That same SAM could easily hit an airliner at FL330. All about collecting $$$.

It passed 335-91, so by this logic, there are a whole bunch of Russian friends both R and D, in the House.

Sounds like some compromise, which people have been talking about here, was done. At least to buy time to wrangle over stuff some more, without punishing the American public in the process.

Don’t forget corn bread and tomatoes from your victory garden.

Bowman’s office said it was an accident, and the congressman told reporters later Saturday: “I was trying to get to a door. I thought the alarm would open the door and I pulled the fire alarm to open the door by accident.”

Idiot. If he’s this dumb and doesn’t know a handle marked Fire Alarm, would in fact, set off the building fire alarm, then he’s too dumb to serve in Congress.

Or……perhaps he fits right in.

I don't consider the "Freedom Caucus" to be part of a bipartisan arrangement, nor should our should our support for a war in Europe be. But of the dissenting 91 NO votes, 90 were Republican plus 1 Democrat.
