Got to fly this today :)

Get down to GA and I'll take ya up in mine, it's not loud and unsafe like the MU-2 ;), but I think you'll enjoy it :D

Be careful, it's entirely possible that the whims of Sentient will put me within striking distance, and I'll have to show you how we used to "roll the (fill in broken down aircraft) back at (fill in shady freight op)". ;)

Get down here...we'll fly the plane down to Newnan to hangout with JoelT and OA.

I can't help but think the nose of that airplane looks like a Messerschmidt ME 262, especially with the way the nose wheel is set up

I like the plane!

The real reason isnt noise abatement. Years ago Massey Ranch needed the runway to be resurfaced and asked all the flight schools to help pay for the runway improvements since they felt like they were mostly responsible for most of the wear and tear. Well some of the schools including ERAU did not want and feel like it was there responsibility to help pay for the renovations. So Massey had to pay for it without the help of the flight schools and as a retaliation banned the schools from using it. When I was at ERAU we were only allowed to do low approaches.

I have seen this kind of crap a lot flying around Florida.....it`s really sad. In X59 just south of KMLB there is a situation like this, but even the local pilots complain about other traffic, on one of the runways you can`t do touch and goes, one day I was in the pattern and by mistake I said I was going to do a touch and go, in my head I was going for a full stop and so I did, but I guess somebody not flying was listening to the Radio and drove to the airport, on my third landing this van just stops in front of me on the taxi way (I was taxing over to the other runway to practice some X wind landings with my student, we were the only traffic at the airport) one guy jumps out (my engine was still running) and tells me to shut the plane and get out, he never identified himself, I did what he said (the cadet doesn`t come with a R gear), he come up to the wings and asks for our Certificates, in a really arrogant way. I asked him if he was from the FAA, he said he worked for the airport manager, he blamed me for doing touch and goes (while I only called for them but did full stops), he decided to call my school and get our chief pilot to decide what to do.....well I ended up in the chief pilot room few hours later, and got blamed for what happened.

In that sort of situation, don't do anything. Don't show him any identification or certs. Make him prove beyond the shadow of a doubt who he is. If it were me, I would have called the local PD to have someone there as a witness. If he can't prove that you were doing touch and go's, fire up the plane and go home.

At the flight school I worked at, we got a letter from the Airport Office of PDK informing us that of our planes had violated the "Voluntary" curfew that starts at 11pm. It said that if that tailnumber violated it again, it would be a $500 fine. I called the office and explained to them that they needed further education on what the term "voluntary" meant, our attorney would be happy to explain it to them.

Never flew a 310, but always thought it was a good looking airplane. I do have a fair amount of time in a Baron which of course has the same engines, and if that 172 is your regular ride, you done good just keeping up.

I do usually fly the 172. I didn't find it all that hard in the 310 (though I did have some help ;) ). When we first got off it climbed MUCH faster than I expected. He told me to hold at 1000 just after we turned. I looked at the altimeter and told him, "Oops, we're already at 1500." I had to get us back down and then hold it there. The landing wasn't bad though, even though we were going twice what I am used to it didn't seem different.

Hey - don't forget to hit me up!!!

I got some 310 time a while back - I found that when the right aux tank reads empty, it is empty - imagine that. Interrupted my nap when the right engine surged and backfired! It is a little different to land, I much prefer the 340.

Screw that dude! "working" for the airport manager? - sounds kind of shady to me...probably just tell him to go F-himself.

But too bad the 421 doesn't make that much noise.. I'll be flying over Massey in a couple weeks.

If the runway lights weren't OTS, I'd think about organizing a convoy of 172's to go down there some night at about midnight, and just do a constant barrage of low approaches/touch and goes.

They really do work but they haven't changed the notam.

The 310 is a really fun/powerful airplane to fly. Glad you enjoyed it!

All the noise stuff is insane. The guy at X50 should get smacked for making the website like that.
I've flown there a handful of times back in 2005 and it seemed like a fine place-not to mention the fuel prices at the time were pretty reasonable.

WOW.

That is insane. I would have been ticked if things went down like that.
Definitly would have involved police and FAA- getting in the way of operations like that is reckless on the part of the guys on the ground.

Massey Ranch is a great airport to do touch and go's. When I was flying at ERAU we weren't allowed to go there, but I went there a lot after I started training at Air America.

Seriously you had NO obligation to positively ID yourself without them telling you who they are.

"worked for the airport manger" is a poor excuse. When an FAA inspector came out to just check a charter operation, he was in the bin with us, and showed me his badge personally.

If that happens again keep quite, yes, no, and no excuse are your three magic answers.

I wouldn't even shut down unless he was stupid enough to approach the propeller, and if he refused to move I would pull out my cell phone and call the police. Impeding the operation of an aircraft is a no-no. I definitely wouldn't show this guy my certificates or give him my name.
