Got to fly this today :)

Pilot and A Half (for now
I had the chance to fly this cessna310.jpg today. It has 300hp per side and climbs like crazy. :)

Glad you got to fly the only Cessna Twin without a "name". Mine doesn't have the 300hp a side, just 260...but she'll get up and go. They're great airplanes!

Did you land it?

Yes, I didn't do bad for having not flown in 2 months. ;)

If you spend much time flying the 310, it'll humble you more than a few times...that long nose gear and the height you sit at makes for a "different" landing picture.

Did you fly it local, or get to take it on a trip?

We just went a few miles X50-KOMN-6FL7-X50. The height didn't throw me off. It really didn't seem all that much different than the 172 as far as landing to me. I probably won't fly it again, just wanted to try it out when I had the chance.

Good ole Massey Ranch, I've not been there since my training days at Sanford! Hopefully you'll get to fly it again and get more time in it, the 310's always been a good plane to me.

I love Massey. None of the schools are allowed to use it for training anymore unless they are based there or ERAU gets to use it for their landing competitions.

Yup, X50 is good stuff. Especially when you see the guy who lives right there who made a website complaining about the airport. I've never flown a 310, but have always wanted to.

Eh, is this a recent change, or what? I've always used it for training, and I'm not at ERAU and not based there.

Check the NOTAMs. I think it is in there for noise abatement.

Booooo...damn NIMBY's. Hopefully they're not as bad as the ones at PDK or Naples, FL.

There's a guy with a nice message to the pilots on his roof on the departure end of 18. Guess hearing planes take off and land all day doesn't fit his fancy. Maybe he should have thought about that when he bought his house.

Hmmmm...I might be down in the New Smyrna Beach area in the coming months...if I take off 18, I'll keep it low and loud just for him :)

Just checked the NOTAMs for X50. I don't see anything there for X50, other than 2 towers with lights OTS and the runway lights being OTS. The guy who has the nice message also runs a website, I believe. www.oncequietneighborhood.com (website has some strong language on it).
I thought the dispatcher told me it was a NOTAM, maybe they just called all the bigger schools that used it. I know Epic, Phoenix, DCA, and ERAU (except the competition) don't use it.

Never flew a 310, but always thought it was a good looking airplane. I do have a fair amount of time in a Baron which of course has the same engines, and if that 172 is your regular ride, you done good just keeping up.

Get down to GA and I'll take ya up in mine, it's not loud and unsafe like the MU-2 ;), but I think you'll enjoy it :D
