Got an SUPT Interview!!

So I just got an email saying that the Air Guard unit in Jackson, MS wants me to come down and see them on August 18 for an interview. The interview is for the SUPT slot and I had a couple of questions,

Anybody else from JC interviewing?

Do they usually have a place for you to stay on base if you area civilian or do you stay at a hotel nearby?

I know every unit is different, but do any of you fine people have any advice for the interview? Anything that I could study perhaps?

Thanks for any help that you all can give.

My scores were decent. AFOQT 97 Pilot TBAT 94. I don't know any body down at the unit. I am kinda nervous about spending $600 plus to be 1 of 20 interviewing for 2 slots though. Confident but nervous.

If you didn't spend it, you would always wonder what could have been. If you do spend it and don't get the slot, you will know you gave it your best shot. Good luck and congrats!

Can't win if you don't play.

No place on base to stay, you'll be on your own for motel and transportation. Closest motel is a Sleep Inn http://www.sleepinn.com/hotel-flowood-mississippi-MS020?promo=gglocal
then a Hol Inn Express http://www.hiexpress.com/h/d/ex/1/en/hotel/fwdms?&cm_mmc=mdpr-_-googlemaps-_-ex-_-fwdms&dp=true .

Advice. Know something about the unit and it's mission, be prepared to answer questions about why you want to be in this unit, and are you willing to relocate in-state permanantly. Also, are you looking at jumping to an airline job later.

This unit has been pretty much activated constantly since they became mission capable back in 2004.

Thank you for all the reply's. I don't have an airline job currently but it is an option (who knows when they will start hiring again). If I stay busy flying there then I would not need to get an airline job and I remember in the application they said the unit is very busy "not the typical guard unit" as MD said. Living in Mississippi is going to be a lot different then what I am used to but I am willing to do what I need to do.

I visited that unit in May 08, though they wouldn't humor my application for the fall 08 board because they wanted degree-in-hand.

Good folks at that unit: I chatted with the chief pilot for a couple hours then dinked around in the sim with him.

MDPilot covered it. He's your best bet for info, I think he used to be in that unit back in the -141 days.

Interview advice: relax and don't suck. Best of luck.

Yeah, they've been burned by the "I only have one more semester,......oops, two more,.....oops, I guess I need to change Fiscal Years." Goodbye UPT slot.

Actually, I was the unit's Air Force Advisor from 96-2000 in the C-141.

There's a tagged thread at the top of the Guard/Reserve forum at baseops.net with tons of interview questions. Review that a bit and be yourself. Whatever happens happens. Good luck man!

Congratulations and good luck. Like mhcasey said, be sure to read up on possible interview questions and have a few "Tell me about a time when . . ." stories handy.

Had my interview today, I thought it went pretty well and now it is out of my hands. Not to many surprises with the interview.

Thank you MDPilot as well for your help.

I will let everyone know what happens in two weeks.

Just got an email not too long ago saying that I wasn't the right fit for the unit. So on to the next unit. I am going to try and stay closer to home this time though. There is no way I can keep spending that much money for numerous interviews. It would have been a great unit though. I think I am going to contact a reserve recruiter and active duty recruiter as well now.
