Got a new job!

Being a college graduate requires some time for rest and relaxation, but after, the need to send out thousands upon thousands of job applications for potential stepping stone jobs is necessary. You can bet I was extremely thrilled when Delta Airlines got back to me and offered me the position of the Baggage Handler/Ramp Operator. As of right now I am ready-reserve awaiting the phone call from one of the recruiters but they told me to expect to start training sometime this January. I am so excited!

Gratz man! Keep your head on a swivel, do not lose your focus out there. When I worked JFK we'd have a serious (sometimes deadly) injury once a month. Keep in mind JFK is something like 120 buildings both cargo and pax with 30k people directly employed by someone at the airport at any one time. Safety, Safety, Safety!

Phil,
One piece of advice.....

ALWAYS.......or was that ....NEVER..... (what was that from? Can't remember.)

Oh never mind, too much celebration already.... Congrats! And Happy New Year!

Congratulations.

I'm thinking it was from Real Genius

Just remember CB, DB, and IB's goes in one section of the airplane. The LB goes in the opposite side of the aircraft, also separate your priorities bags :)

LD8: DQF way way different.
Make sure you know those.

Containerized is always better than palletized.

Seat cushion in an LD3 on the angled part sure as poo makes for a great bed!

I wish I got palletized stuff. I only got flights to the oil fields which consisted random heavy stuff, like big spools of cable that barely fit through the cargo door. Or stacking 100lb fish boxes three layers high in the forward compartment of an Airbus A319. Let me tell you, trying to fit moose antlers in an already full plane is interesting.

Now I really miss the job. The randomness of it is awesome.

Loading 360" pipe into a MD-11 side door atop two 88"x128" pallets with 104" overhang on the front, going sideways off the FMC loader at 2am where the other guys on the plane are grabbing onto you with one hand and the other on the side of the plane trying to give you a net in case you slip. Then the next day having the stupid 747 open it's nose for the same 360" pipe and pulling it in on the electric wheels (on the floor) in 5 minutes, while you sip a little coffee.

747's nose loading is for wussies.
