Fasten your seat belt for a fantastic ride.

This video is a once in a lifetime experience of a British civilian getting a flight at over 70,000 ft. in a U-2 spy plane. Please note that at take-off the assist wheels on the outer edges of the wings drop off upon take-off. The wings are so long that they need temporary support until lift-off. What is not shown is that at landing the plane actually slows to a low enough speed so that two guys are actually able to grab the wing tips and put those assist wheels back on.

The civilian getting the ride is the host of the car show Top Gear on BBC shown through Europe at 9:00 pm Sunday night in Belgium . The views are spectacular as the U-2 flies at altitudes which constitute "SPACE."

That's an amazing video. James and the other guys from Top Gear have all the fun. That's pretty much the only show I watch when I'm in England.

Too damn cool. What episode was this from?

It's not a Top Gear episode - it's one of the programs that May presents by himself from time to time (this one was about the Moon program). The whole thing was up on YouTube at one point, but unfortunately it's been taken down.

James is one lucky bastard.

As big fan of a lot of stuff on BBC America, I've seen the full program a couple of times. Absolutely amazing and breathtaking experience!!! He truly is one lucky bastard!

It was nice to actually see a reporter truly appreciative of the privilege of that ride.

That's what i really like about the video and reporting. James May actually appreciates aviation, and it really is nice to see a reporter who actually cares.
