Whew,

CFI renewal certificate came in the email yesterday!

Next up:

  • medical
  • IPC check (been over a year since I have flown)
  • build my freelance instruction business
  • taildragger rating
  • upset/acrobatic training
  • survive in the meantime at my 8/hr part-time cooking job.
  • finish a software project so I can turn my attention to other things.
God, I love being a pilot.

Those three are on my list too.

Who'd you do your renewel with?

I need to get started on mine this month. Thinking American Flyers, one fee, lifetime renewel. But, I hear it's not as "high quality" as Gleim.

I just finished up my Gleim renewal for the 2nd time and without a doubt will go with American Flyers next time.

From a strictly financial perspective it is going to be infinitely smarter to go with American Flyers if you plan on keeping your CFI's current for life.

That being said, if you can, or rather want to afford it, the Gleim CFI renewal is an excellent course laid out in a practical outline.

It always feels good when that CFI gets extended another 2 years! Mine's gonna be due in November. :(

I did a seminar the first time. It was ok, but I figured I'd spend the $200 on AF for my second renewal. It's the same price as a seminar and it's for life. I've done AF for the last 2 renewals now and will never pay for a seminar again.

I went with Jepp for the second time; it cost 119.00 and the material was pretty much identical to last time. I still learned stuff, but it was "glossy" not "nuts and bolts". Frankly, I could have used my notes from last year and probably would have passed. You just read through the lessons, writing down all the main points and then when you take the test, just refer back to your notes.

I am definitely going to investigate gleim and American Flyers next go-around.
If Gleim's renewal is to Jepps renewal as Gleim's study guides are to Jepps, then Gleim would be the way to go.

Good luck on your renewal, and please let me know which one you chose and what you thought of it!

Cordially,

b.
