Good Moral Character...

Please help me find a good definition of good moral character...

Does it relate only to flying or to life beyond that of a cockpit?

As long as you're not legally required to notify your neighbors anytime you move, then you're probably ok.

The only story I've heard in regards to this "requirement":

A DC-3 Captain, years ago, decided to shoot the moon from his window on taxi in.

The story goes a FAA inspector saw it, and suspended him for lack of good moral character.

How true? I have no idea.

Funny, I've heard that exact story.

I heard it from a guy that was a DC-3 Captain at Lake Central Airlines

BTW, he was hired to sit FO in a DC-3 with a wet commercial and instrument ticket....they bought his multi. He retired as a checkpilot from US Airways on the 9.

Weren't they going to remove the written requirment of your need to be "of good moral character"?

For the purposes of U.S. Citizenship, good moral character excludes people if, during the last five years, he or she:
  • has committed and been convicted of one or more crimes involving moral turpitude
  • has committed and been convicted of 2 or more offenses for which the total sentence imposed was 5 years or more
  • has committed and been convicted of any controlled substance law, except for a single offense of simple possession of 30 grams or less of marijuana
  • has been confined to a penal institution during the statutory period, as a result of a conviction, for an aggregate period of 180 days or more
  • has committed and been convicted of two or more gambling offenses
  • is or has earned his or her principal income from illegal gambling
  • is or has been involved in prostitution or commercialized vice
  • is or has been involved in smuggling illegal aliens into the United States
  • is or has been a habitual drunkard
  • is practicing or has practiced polygamy [aww, man...]
  • has willfully failed or refused to support dependents
  • has given false testimony, under oath, in order to receive a benefit under the Immigration and Nationality Act.

So that feller that was caught cheating on a written exam a while back could potentially be found to be lacking good moral character. If I remember correctly, he was bared from retesting for only one year (not five).

That's awesome! I've heard of very similar stories of pilots like this guy who were just at the right place at the right time.
