Ok, the last thing I want to do is turn this into a GoJet bashing thread. Just wondering what everyones take on a an incident that happened prior to and during boarding a GoJet flight yesterday.

Flight was going Chicago to RIC, our base. It's our 5th day out due to weather which we're only contractually limited to 4. Positive space tickets for all 3 crew (CA,FO,FA) home on GoJet. We are waiting at the gate since the plane is delayed. The three of us are talking when the GoJet captain (Sanjay, for anyone interested) comes up to us and says "You DHing to RIC? You're going to have to take that off or you're not getting on, and the flight bags ride in the checked bags area. I've already call my flight manager and if you have a problem with it, call your chief pilot." 'That' which he was refering was the CAs badge backer, which said Alter EGoJet, which was provided to him by ALPA during the whole debacle a couple years ago. When we finally did board after many calls to the union, chief pilots, flight managers, etc, the GJ FA shoved his hand in my face to stop me from boarding until Capt. Sanjay could 'inspect' us.

My question is this. Does the Captain have a right to tell you what you can and can not wear and what you can and can't have on your personal property in a situation like this. Obviously it's "his ship and his rules", but it's personal property and an item that's on your person... It seems like a very grey area to me. We did nothing to provoke him at the gate, we were simply standing there talking to each other. The TSA guys here are going to see more about this in an upcoming VARS.

If you are on a revenue (positive space) ticket, I don't think the Capitan really has a leg to stand on, at least I sure would not try a stunt like that as a Capitan. Jumpseating is a different story...

Yep. The Captain only has authority in this case if the passenger will affect safety (i.e. drunk and/or dillusional). I hope that guy gets a stern talking to by as many people as possible....what an A**.

Just curious: how are G7 crews treated on TSA flights? Similarly, I'd bet.

Every GJ crew I've ever seen on a TSA flight has been treated with courtesy. They are not welcomed with open arms by any means but are always treated with respect.

On another note, I always check in up front even if I'm DH'ing on GJS. It's a common courtesy I think...

I do not believe that CA had the right to act as he did.

If you were wearing something that was in violation of a company policy, or not dressed according to published uniform standards, that would be different. Or if you were going to be riding in the jumpseat I could see where he'd do that, but if you were not violating any laws or company policies, I can't see where that kind of attitude is acceptable.

Eagle guys used to make AA guys take off their scope badges if they were riding up front jumpseating. But if they were in the back on their own D2s or DHing they had no say in the matter.

Yeah really. I could care less about Union, Non-Union crap that goes on but what do people really expect? I wouldn't let someone in my seat with a sticker that says "Freight Pilots Suck". Strange how no one has a problem with us even though we're not Union.
Oh my, what have I done?

You don't fly the same customer (freight vs. humans) on similar type of aircraft, so it's really simple.

Why would passenger pilots hate YOU as a freight pilot? Two different service are being provided.

Now, I'm sure (and it happens. . .DHL, ABX, and UPS of recently) that if you had your company generate another company, with same airplanes, but not with the same group of pilots just to get around a CBA you'd probably be just as pissed off. Not that this is the situation occurring with DHL, ABX and UPS. . .at least not fully.

Really not that difficult.

But the Pax pilot vs. Cargo / Freight pilot argument really shouldn't exist.

Whipsawing will occur be it cargo or passengers. Now, we, in our individual segments can help reduce the amount that occurs.

Completly over the line!!! That ticket is actually purchased through United, not HoeJet. Tell the BlowJet CA to shove it and start making phone calls.

Good grief, was the captain 12 or something?

If it was that big of an issue, call the person forward to the cockpit, work it out and use the situation as a learning experience.

Even at the apex of the RDJC versus DALPA hubris, I never personally experienced any scenarios like this.

If this wasnt a DH home, i would have let the captain remove me from the flight. Then i would have called sked and told them why i didnt make the flight. things seem to make a bigger splash when there is a delay involved.

What a prick. I would've had words with that FA

When he stuck his hand out to stop me from getting on, it was about 2 inches from my chest. Had he actually physically stopped me from getting on the airplane, it would be a whole different issue here.

Phone calls made. Union knows about it and so does management. Not sure of the outcome yet, but this whole event is unacceptable.

Exactly! Too bad it wasn't a DH to work a flight...then I think more-heads would roll. Unfortunately, it looks like the company is trying to sweep this under the rug.

sorry but what is a 'badge backer, which said Alter EGoJet'?

something degrading towards GoJet I suppose?

I heard this guy Sanjay was one of the first TSA guys to bail for Hojets. I would make sure his name gets spread around to every ALPA airline so they can return the favor!;):yar:

No doubt, man. Truer words were never spoken.

"You had to cancel the downline flight why?!??!"

Or everybody could just grow up and get over this whole GoJet nonsense. There are far more egregious things going on in the industry than TSA management's alleged end run around their pilot contract. In their current incarnations, ALL regional carriers undermine the profession and lower everyone's career expectations.

Any sort of unity the profession once had is being torn apart by pilot groups seceding from ALPA in droves, thinking they can do better on their own. And maybe they can, for a little while, for themselves, but later on, management will point to other pilot groups who don't have it so good thanks to a weakened ALPA and say "you guys are already overpaid, no deal".

Organized labor is under attack from the right in this country, and all this infighting among us isn't helping the situation. Those dudes everyone's so quick to diss could be your colleagues at Southwest or Delta before too long, and what are you going to say to Capt Sanjay then? "I heard you were a scumbag while at G7, but now that you're one of 'us', you're ok."???
:whatever:
