GoJet culture

In terms of GoJet using Lido software im sure we all remember the UPS flight that crashed in BHM which caused the spotlight to be shifted to dispatch about how WX info was missing from the flight plan and more recently the Compass Airlines snafu with the feds over the Mexico WX missing info. With the Lido software is that issue being addressed or is it still incumbent on the dispatcher to pretty much spam the flight crew with the wx info hoping to god that it gets sent?

A1, now that you mention it, it IS reminiscent of being in high school in some ways. For example, there is an 'in' crowd. If you're part of it, life is good; you won't be fired. If you're NOT part of the 'in' crowd, look out; if you rub a member of the 'in' crowd the wrong way, then anything can happen...

By "in" crowd do you mean management or do you mean the top 10 on the seniority list?

We didn't have issues with the WX attaching to the release. However, LIDO IS slow to update the METARs & TAFs; it can be 15-20 minutes behind at times. That is to say that when a METAR or TAF is updated, LIDO doesn't always show it right away; hence, other sources must be used, e.g. Fusion or aviationweather.gov.

What we DID have issues with was the TLR attaching to the release. When that happened, it was a PITA; the flight essentially needed to be rebuilt from scratch when that happened.

I guess the best way to put it is the power structure and those who are plugged in to the same. Who are the popular kids? Who's in good with the right people? Position on the seniority list has nothing to do with it.

Compass flights in question were prior to LIDO. They were dispatched with SABRE.

The work culture at GoJet is fun and professional. I currently have been dispatching for GoJet for almost 2 years and can tell you that any cancerous individuals that were here are gone. The people in the SOC are like a very dysfunctional family and mostly everyone gets along. It does not feel like I’m back at high school at all. The dispatchers and supervisors look out for one another and help each other out whenever they need it. I am enjoying my experience with GoJet and I think my coworkers would say the same.

Most of the DXers and sups are great; there's no question about that. There was a sup working mornings who was especially helpful and proactive. He helped me do my one and only 17347 (aka 3585) flight. If I were busy, he'd take care of a crucial phone call for me, stuff like that. Much of the time, I didn't even have to ask him; he seemed to know just when to step in, and how much to help when he did. He'd give you that extra little bit of help to get through a rough spot, then step aside. He was great! I'll MISS that guy, big time. Most of the DXers were good too; they were helpful. One DXer working the morning shift was a FOUNT of knowledge, someone I would always ask for help, guidance, or clarification with anything. He was the one DXer I wanted to emulate more than any other.

A9 how was it being in the blue? I saw pics of their ops center online and is it like a underground bunker or something encapsulated in blue lighting? it seems like they were just copying SWA with their purple light SOC.

That info is classified.

Well obviously if it's on the 3rd floor it wouldn't be an underground bunker....only thing I don't like about their OCC is the damn floor shakes anytime someone walks

Especially if that someone is on the heavy side... ;)

Ok so if the Lido software has extreamly delayed updates on wx and notams doesn't that seem like a major problem? Like if you were in charge of buying flight planning software and had to choose between sabre and lido and knew from other airlines that lido has a major issue with disseminating updated information with notams would you still buy it? It seems to put more work on the dispatchers by making them go to the faa site every time to get notams instead of just looking in lido and praying to the luftansa gods that the notams are updated.

LIDO = $$. Sabre = $$$$. It's as simple as that.

Well, you do have other sources for WX that update in a more timely manner; you can use Fusion or aviationweather.gov, to make a decision WRT alternates, etc. Usually, by the time you send the release, the WX will have updated. If not, you can use one of the aforementioned sources, copy the METAR or TAF, and paste it into the release if you have to. G7 flies out of a couple of smaller airports out west that don't HAVE TAFs, so you copy from another source and paste it into the remarks. That is why you ALWAYS check the date/time stamp at the beginning of the METAR or TAF.
