Going to drop people out of planes!

Well, after a long extensive soul search, I've decided to forgo the CFI life and go let people jump out of my perfectly good airplane for a while! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I took a Jump pilot job. I'll be getting my 182 checkout on friday and start training there after!

I can't wait to actually be FLYING again! I'm just getting so burned out flying with Private students. I miss getting to fly. Except for the occasional manueaver demo and the all too often life save, as a CFI, you just don't fly that much.

Anyone have any tips or advice for the new Diver Driver (been to that great website already, one of the resources I used to decide).

Don't hit the jumpers on the way down....LOL /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you were bored as a CFI get your CFII. I found it much more fun and rewarding to teach instrument students and commercial students. Plus you do not need to perform the life saving maneuvers that much. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bandit.gif

Suggest the movie "Fandango" for a good reference of how a proper jump operation is run. At least that's the way mine operated in the mid-70s. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/buck.gif

You are going to have a lot of fun! I loved my time in the 182.

Here's a good article about DZ ops:

Also, be sure to bring a full lunch box!!! There will be days you will starve unless your DZ has food on site if you don't. Your days will be long, so stay hydrated and snack often. I have paid the price a few times for not coming prepared. Also, don't store your sandwich in the glove box with a fuel tester to eat on the climb out.....

You going to Walterboro or St George to do the jump pilot?
Good Luck with it!

I'll be out at Walterboro...

Good tip about the lunch, hadn't thought about that... I guess if they're real busy I wouldn't get a break. I think they do a cook out thing at the DZ but I'm not sure...

Ditto on the food/water advice! I flew meatmissles in Granbury, TX for a few months, and although the people I worked or were awesome (they actually brought me fast food to the plane a few times!!!!) there were many lunches eaten in the plane on the way up.

It's a really fun job, and skydivers as a general rule are a laid-back bunch. The real fun starts on the way down though, as I'm sure you will find out soon enough.

Good luck and have fun!!!
