going this fall

How did you all like Riddle? I'll (hopefully) be going this fall and using my GI Bill benefits to fun the entire degree program. How was living in Daytona? Is the campus clean and new? Courses hard and demanding? Just fill me in!

Thanks all

Colleges are supposed to old. Colleges are supposed to be hard work. Anything else just isnt a real college in which to get a real degree in. haha

I'm gonna have to disagree with that. The value of your degree is dependent upon the respect it gets within the professional community you seek to join.

I did ERAU online and it saved me a TON of money. All of the instructors have real world experience and all of the students have real world experience. IMO, that is way more valuable than getting the "college experience" that everyone puts huge weight on. You spoke of using the GI Bill. That tells me you have already had some life experience and don't need to go through the silly motions that are supposedly crucial to your success in life. Go in house or not, ERAU is a pretty good education and the classes are what you make of them. If you love aviation and know how to study a subject to your satisfaction, you won't have too many problems. USE THE INTERNET. Some of those $200, 50th edition books haven't gotten to the edition that is actually able to get the message across to the student.

You ever been to Daytona Beach? If you like the beach, its probably a great place to live. If you don't do much beach, there isn't a lot to do. I've heard there are some decent bars, but I'm not big on the party scene, so I'm not really sure on that.

Certain parts of campus are great, specifically the College of Aviation & College of Business building. Right now they are building a new flight building, so its in a trailer right now.

Classes are going to depend on what program your in, and what you make of them. I haven't had a challenging class yet, and with 1 semester left, I don't see that changing. But, I've never felt much of a challenge academically with anything, so keep that in mind.

If you are going to be flying, look long and hard about where you want to fly, before you fork out the money to do so at ERAU. There are lots of places you can do it, save money, and get more flight time.

Thanks all for the insight. I actually have the new post 9/11 GI Bill, so for me to sue it for flight training I have to attend an accredited university with a flight program. ERAU is one of those. I'll be able to go the whole 4 years including flight for nothing. I guess the Navy gave me something after all. :p

I'll be an aero science major if I get in.

If your GI bill is paying for it.... go for it.... as for daytona beach.... its a hole.... find a good group of friends and stick with them and you'll be fine. I can't say my 4 years were the best of my life but I had a lot of good times and in a way already kind of miss that hole....

Women vaguely exist but 90% of the time aren't worth it because they're either trash or a riddle chick which usually means they think they're better looking than they are, bitchy and have the personality of a brick wall.

There is also plenty of guys like you using their GI bill so you won't be left out.

Money was the worst part of Riddle but for you it's free.....

(P.S. - If your going to be looking for some women you want to make friends at Flagler College... or UCF)

I have always found it funny to hear guys from ERAU say that. I actually lived 1.5hrs away from Daytona and dated a girl that went to ERAU. She and all of her girl friends(also Riddle students) were very good looking, great personalities, but hated the attitude of Riddle guys.

But to the OP, Riddle is a great school, my brother attended the campus and loved it. I have spent a lot of time on the campus as well with friends and they all love it. Only valid complaint about the school is cost, but that is no issue for you. Daytona itself is quite a boring city, but there are some fun places to hangout.

yea, very well put here. Never went to riddle but have a few friends that did. I've lived in daytona for two years now, and i've been flight instructoring for a year here. Daytona itself sucks. the beach is nice, thats about it. not a whole lot of decent places to even hang out anymore. razzles in daytona is a joke.

like was said above, the girls here are a joke. very stuck up, no personality, here on mommy and daddy's money, and think they are better than you. i was lucky enough to meet one who didn't go to riddle and who wasn't from daytona, and i've held on to her pretty tight.

Daytona does suck, but I've learned to appreciate it. Don't forget 509 and The Colosseum for the night scene!

As far as the girls, yes Aviator1988 hit it on 100%. Don't talk to any girls under the Class Charlie. New Smyrna Beach is a very nice place if you are looking for a nice lady friend to meet.

For what it's worth, most of the Riddle women (n = 3, so I guess that's a representative sample :sarcasm: ) I've met have been great folks, but your mileage may vary.

Hooligan's in Ormond has bitchin' wings and beer, too, but it's a bit out of the way. (My grandma, until recently, lived in Ormond Beach.) Daytona has a lot of beach and not a lot of anything else. Prescott is a sleeper.

I myself got an acceptance at ERAU (software engineering, actually - yes, they have a software engineering program): it worked out better that I didn't go. But if you've got it paid for, go for it.

Here's my bit, and that is Riddle and Daytona will be what you make them. I had a blast there: I loved the beach and campus activities like Casino Night, and Blue Springs was very nice also. Walk around campus, start a conversation with a girl in your class, you'll find someone interesting!

I didn't do clubs like Razzles; most girls who aren't bimbos and actually worth knowing at Riddle didn't either. Campus groups were great for meeting people, and plenty of girls joined Martial Arts and Inventors clubs.

Case-in-point: These guys talking about girls are Riddle not being worth their time were not interested in the company of INTELLIGENT girls. Most girls at Riddle are serious, intelligent individuals who won't drop their pants for the first guy to pay them a compliment. That doesn't make them unworthwhile.

Casino Night, When did they have this? We always did the SunCruz, even had my players card until recently. I hear they've gone under. I miss those dollar blackjack talbes, in AC they're around 25...

Can still hear the "ladies night" radio ads in my mind.

How long ago did you attend Riddle? I only graduated in '08 and all four years that I attended there were those event nights, at least one per semester. The movie nights were also pretty good when they were in the Willie Miller Center or on the West lawn.

Believe me, I know all too well what you mean. Just thinking of it makes me cringe.

.

1992/1993. At PRC, we had the "RiddleVision" channel, which was a loop of VHS tapes that would play one or two selected movies over the weekend to give people something to do. One weekend, someone replaced the tapes with Debbie Does Dallas or something like that, and it took a few hours for anyone to notice.

I finished Dec '02. Maybe they started up after the casino boat from Ponce went belly up and left all the students wanting more. I always enjoyed the drive to Ponce almost as much as the gambling.

We had kids posting Vivid videos on the network for all to view; allowed Top Gun and the like to run interrupted.

I visit Daytona every January for a jet ski event. There's a reason we usually party at the hotels. Went to Razzles once and it was pretty good until the locals showed up, then it got trashy very fast.
