What are everyones go to alts? Ones where you know you get good service and can recover quickly or that are usually decent with the weather? For ETOPS folks what are your go to airports for ETOPS? Has anyone had poor experiences with an alternate in the past?

When it's legal, MKE for ORD and PHL for EWR are 2 big ones; also when it's barely requiring in the DMV I'll often do BWI for IAD and IAD for DCA

How has ALB burned you? The ground ops at ALB or the lazy forecaster at NWS Albany Office? For me the worst is HOU. They would be for paper ONLY, if there's a chance of going its either AUS or SAT vs waiting forever on the ground for HOU ops.

Always goes illegal. If not the TAF then some stupid notam taking out the runway or navaids i need. No point in evaluating the ground ops if you cant go there in the first place!

HSV for Memphis, DAY for Standiford. I'd do PIT for PHL since everyone else did EWR, and I usually would do SAV for CLT to keep away from the GSP/GSO circle.

This is an interesting list to see who all goes where.

NYC - SWF, BDL, PVD, ALB, IAD, PIT, CLE
IAD - PIT, BWI, MDT, ORF
ORD - MKE, MSN, GRR, IND
IAH - AUS, SAT, DFW, MSY, HOU
DEN - BFF, GJT, SLC
SFO - OAK, SMF
LAX - ONT
SNA - LAX
ATL - TYS, BHM, CAE
MCO - ATL (no joke, fit that on a 737-900ER from SFO to MCO)

Dont blame the TAF, blame the NWS forecaster who wrote the TAF or airport ops/FAA for not having money to maintain the RWY or NAVAID.

Interested in how ALB's burned you -- BUF or ORH I could understand, but ALB was usually decent. PWM or BTV could get tricky, too.

Anyone with EWINS TAFs have anyone noticed that their TAFs might sometimes be right above alt requirements or alt mins? Say FM1700 3SM OVC020 whereas the taxpayer funded NWS forecast has FM1700 3SM OVC019 or 2SM OVC020?

My go tos are CYHZ when ETOPS Canada sucks, or even stateside, think Bangor or (shudders) Boston, when Canada REALLY sucks. Heck if we ever have to cancel a flight for ETOPS then

For the other side Ireland or the UK are my go to.

At my airline, COS became an online station last year. We have a large DEN operation. The next time DEN had a microburst event, we dumped so many planes into COS that some had to park at and be handled by the FBO. Now we try to not send more than a couple there. Most try to fit on ABQ, AMA, or SLC if there's room for the gas.

Other than that, my go-tos are ONT for SoCal (and LAS/PHX during monsoon season) and SJC for the bay area's usual low ceilings.

CLL was always my go to for IAH. Mainline never went there so it was always a super quick turn unless there was a program going back to Houston. BFF was my Denver go to
