Go Jets Questions

Anything is a known risk though. People hate Colganites, others hate Skywesters, others hate airline X. Its the soap opera that airlines are.

True, but it's fairly well known in the airlines that GoJet is the "do not touch". Hell, flying itself is a known risk...but when it comes to your career (for me) there are better decisions to be made, personally.

I wish the two guys luck, but if it turns out not to be good for them in the future, there will be some "I told you so's" thrown around.

Btw, I hate helo's....(j/k!)

Which is funny that it's the "do not touch", when (going round and round again) UAL furloughees were encouraged to go there, and did. And it worked for them. An airine is ultimately what one makes of it, or not.

You are officially on the rescue "no pickup" list now....:D

Once again the United Captains I know said it would be a fine place to get my 121 turbine experience. I guess I will just have to chance it. It's not like there are any really perfect airlines out there.

I have RC Cola...and a hot blonde to hold the RC Cola for me...

You don't have to keep justifying it for us...but it does seem like you're trying to convince yourself this an ok way to go.

There are no perfect airlines, esp in the regional world. Hopefully those same United Captains will be willing to put their name on the line when you've got the quals to move on. Who knows, maybe the interview panel has one of the furloughed and that is currently at GoJet.

You really think someone would make a hiring decision based on GoJet being on a resume? The folks I've spoke with at United seemed to act like it didn't matter where I got my 121 experience as long as I got some and was ready for the exodus.

Yup. I'm sure there is no policy anywhere that says "we don't hire Gojetters at ...." but if there is a former Trans Statees guy on your hiring board, it probably isn't going to work in your favor.

But as mentioned, there are people who don't like other airlines for all kinds of reasons.

Not really. If you asked all of the captains I fly with, maybe 5% would even know who GoJet is, and that's probably being generous. Half of them don't even know who Pinnacle is, and they're one of the largest FFD carriers in the country and operate quite a few flights out of our main hub. You'd be amazed how clueless most mainline pilots are about what's going on in the rest of the industry.

Maybe not present day...however, as pilot's of our generation (2000-present day) move up and into positions at those majors (and thus, into positions where they could influence hiring), they will know who GoJet is. That's where this could become potentially troublesome. Not saying that it will, but I know from my experience in hiring pilot's at 3 companies, if I see something that makes me raise an eyebrow...you're going to get some very pointed questions. If you have a great answer and I feel satisfied, I'm not going to hold your choices again you...however, if you shuffle and are awkward about it, then you might be getting a rejection letter.

I'm sure later in life Gulley will have to answer questions about Silver, and I know he'll answer truthfully and have nothing to hide (as he shouldn't)...but there will probably one person that ask him about it being Gulfstream and I hope he's prepared for that reality.

GoJets guys should be the same way. Just answer any interview questions, and if it's anything further than that.......history of GoJets, etc.......that's not their problem, not their issue, and shouldn't be held against them. If an interviewer wants to be negative about it, that's the interviewers problem.

Same with any airline....Colgan, ASA, Eagle, Mesaba, Comair, Mesa, etc. Am sure there are people who hate something about all these places. So what. That's their problem.

Gulley shouldn't have to answer for anything anyone doesn't like about Gulfstream. Not his problem, not his issue. Gulley biggest worry needs to be simply the fact that he's Gulley in the first place. :)

Most of the people involved in hiring at the mainline level are senior captains. By the time anyone from our generation is involved on pilot hiring boards, GoJet will be a distant memory.

Sure, it's something to think about, but not really anything to be of great concern.

Glad to know I'm not the only one that questions Gulley's basic flying skills...I mean, who forgets to check the oil caps on a 310/320 DPApilot ;)

I can only speak from my experience, but I know for our interviews here at QX (obviously not mainline, but still a very difficult interview when compared to other regionals), we have FO's that do the technical part and some sit in on the CP/ACP part of the interview.

Hopefully it will be a distant memory, our biggest concern going forward is with the "projected" turnover at the majors in the next years will be to keep our profession moving forward and not let management try to get away with tricks because of all the "new" pilots that will be "OMGZ, NEW JETZ!"

I'm aware of the risks involved. Before I interviewed, I talked to a guy who hangs out at the flight school. He's a senior United captain who is on the hiring board and will be spending the next two years setting up the 787 for United. He said good things. The night before the interview I hung out at the bar in the hotel with an American (ex-TWA) captain and a Gojet (furloughed USAir) captain. They said good things. Those people carry a lot of weight and experience in my opinion. Besides, if anybody asks, I took the best option available. Why should I be ashamed about that?

Darned if you do and darned if you don't. Just have to roll the dice and hopefully pick the regional that is hiring based on growth instead of pure attrition in this market.
