Glider, or aerobatic

With my 17th birthday coming up, private and instrument rides coming up as well. I have a choice to make, I already have my High performance, as well as my complex endorsements so I want to go after somthing new while I build time for my commercial.

I have access to gliders as well as a Citabria. So I either get a glider addon, or my aerobatic endorsement. For those of you who have either of these what is your opinion? At the moment I'm leaning towards the citabria and the aerobatic endorsement.

Interesting choice, i'm in a similar situation, going to take my instrument check ride in the summer. I'm thinking about getting my Glider add on however, since it is cheaper.

Citabria I'd be flying is 94 an hour, and I have a guy who will give me instruction in it for no charge. Both would be fun... But I love spins etc.

Sounds like a good deal! I've always wanted to try acrobatic flying, however its expensive where i'm. $200 an hour! Well whatever you choose, have fun! Good luck with your check rides as well! Also how easy was it to get your complex add on? I'm going to get that soon once I have enough money

Two flights in an Arrow, that was it. I just did ten hours of my hood time in it so I could have the ten dual required to take it solo.(Insurance reasons)
I think I had it in 2.2 hours, the arrow is just an oversized cherokee with a few more buttons. (And two levers)

There isn't an endorsement for aerobatics.

This the Citabria at the aero club?

I was a member of the soaring club and the aero club. I'm a big fan of soaring and the members of the soaring club are great.

Actually you should do both. Heck you have to build time anyway so with prices like that it sounds like it would be a wash compared to renting the Cherokees anyway.

Exactly, I'm just looking for somthing more maneuverable than a 140. And believe it or not, the 140's I rent go for 72 an hour and the arrow 98;) I've been given a lot of good deals.
And yes, it's the Citabria at the Aero club. As for gliding, I've talked to Burt a few times about it and I'll head up to Blair when the soaring starts.

They tried to organize this weekend, I think it was cancelled though.
My cheeks hurt every time I left the glider field. You know gliding is good when you realize you haven't left an airport smiling in years.

Do both if you can afford it. I do both often. Soaring is probaly the most social flying you will ever do. I have never had more fun than a day of flying at the glider club. As other have said soaring will teach you ALOT about energy management. The first time you set out on a cross country and get out of eyesight of the airport will be a rush. Aerobatics will teach you have to fly an airplane at every thinkable attitude. I cant tell you have many people I have flown with who have never done aerobatics, think the airplane will just fall out of the sky past 60 degrees of bank. You will learn the limits of what "airplanes can do and know how to recover from them. Bill Stein once said " Once you learn how to recover an aircraft from every type of spin, then you can really start to fly."

Got it, I will do both it was just a matter of choosing which to do first. I really want to get into aerobatics, so if I can afford that I will do it first. Otherwise, gliding it is.

Thanks!

Skip the glider go for some aerobatics, gliding is fun for like the first ten minutes then it is kind of just quiet and slow.
