Glider hours to cut cost

At my club, we charge on a per flight basis as opposed to an hourly rate. There is about a 25% discount for flights under 20 minutes in order to keep training affordable. Even with the discount, costs can add up pretty quickly for training, but you can't beat the rate structure for soaring flight. On a good day, I can take the club Discus up off a pattern tow and spend the entire day soaring for under 50 bucks. You can't beat that.
 
I've had it on my bucket list to do a type-ride out there one of these days. We've got someone at my home field building something similar, his goal is to hit FL500 :)

I imagine there's nothing that irks controllers off more than gliding in the flight levels. "Uhm, I'd like a block between FL500 and FL180."
