It was a good think you helped that guy out. It was a good decision to buy him lunch instead of giving him money. The money may have went to something besides a meal otherwise.

Of buying him a meal means he'll have all that much more money left in his pocket at the end of the day with which he can support the addiction of his choice. I'm just sayin'.
 
I think next time I will donate to a charitable organization or shelter. All in all, he smiled I smiled...it's all good :D

But I guess I felt bad and figured that if I were her dad, I'd rather her be begging strangers for money to support whatever substance abuse problem she was likely having, rather than using her body to get it. Gave her the couple of dollar bills I had in my pocket, and then pondered her existance for my drive home. I'd like to think that she just legitimately needed some gas, but I doubt that was the case.

Sad, but true.

Not all of them are just people who 'quit trying'. Some of them were asked to do something and weren't cared for properly when dealing with what happened to them along the way.

Just something to consider. I like the suggestion that we give donations to service organizations rather than just the people on the street... but sometimes.. maybe just to ease the suffering of someone for a little bit ain't so bad.

When I was going through a rough time in my life (about 10 years ago) I used to stop at a chapel after work to pray/think sometimes. There would be a homeless guy there sometimes sleeping and using his shoes as pillows. Never reeked of booze and always had his things tidy. I would slip 20's and 50's into his stuff whenever I had money. Whatever he used it for didn't matter to me, I was just trying to help a fellow human out. You may get burned and you may not, but not taking the chance would be worse for me.
