GI Bill for Checkrides and Writtens

I have used the GI Bill for all of my flight training (excluding PPL) without a hitch. I was wondering if I could be reimbursed for the written exams required for the ratings, or for the practical test its self. Any websites, phone numbers, or POCs would really be appreciated.

From what I understand, if the checkride is outside the program (not conducted Part 141), you don't get reimbursed for it. The person at the flightschool who handles your GI Bill paperwork should have a contact number that you can call for more information.

Written tests....yes, but there's a separate form that has to be filled out and you have to have all the paperwork, ie exam sheet.
It's been a while since I utilized it, but I don't think I was reimbursed for the check ride.
Try, https://www.gibill2.va.gov/vba/vba.cfg/php.exe/enduser/std_alp.php and http://www.gibill.va.gov/pamphlets/CH30/CH30_Pamphlet_General.htm

Depending on which state you live in, check out the state VA benefits too because some states have programs relating to flight training and others don't.

Thanks a lot guys! On the list of approved tests it has the private pilot too. I am going to submit that as well, worst they can do is deny it. I will post an update on how much, or if, I get reimbursed. (probably 6 months from now :) )

Cheers!

Also remember, while I'm not hinting at anything.....the possible reimbursement for a checkride is UP to $500, and UP to $100 for the written, and as was mentioned before....if you just send in proof you took the test (license, results, etc) you probably won't need a receipt.....That's all I'll say about that.

ARGH! I didn't know what it was up to, so i did 90 for the written and 400 for the ride. hmm, oh well, even 490 each for the private, instrument, and commercial will be well worth it. I wonder if the CFI rides and writtens and ME ride is covered. It isn't on the list...

More investigating is to be done! Thanks for all the help, this could turn out to be a nice chunk of money depending on what is approved.

Yeah, once my school finally figured out how to figure everything out, I got 3 checks in the mail same day for all my Instrument stuff that totalled about $3500.....nice!

Ozzie, did you submit the multi or CFI rides or writtens? Cause it would be bad ass to get paid back for that too!

I'll let you know when I take 'em....lol

I'm assuming it will work though, as long as you do it 141, you should be all set....I know I'll at least try!

An update for anyone who is interested in doing this. I submitted my request to be reimbursed on April 2nd. I asked for 400 for each practical and 90 for each written. I sent in the forms from the posts above and a copy of my license.

Today, May 8th I received a letter saying they would pay me for Instrument Knowledge, Instrument Practical, Commercial Knowledge, Commercial Practical, FOI Knowledge, Instructor Knowledge, CFI Practical, and Commercial Multi Practical. a total of $1960.00. I also received a letter saying they would not pay for the Private Knowledge or the Private Practical (as expected).

Hope this helps anyone else looking into doing this.
