Thought I'd share the lastest on the happenings at the airport:

- 35L/17R will be closed for the next couple days (crack sealing and maybe painting as well)

- 27L/9R is scheduled to be done sometime in July. They have already put up taxiway signs and going to lay concrete for 'Sierra' taxiway (East-West) this week.

-New reporting points are suppose to be used in the next week or so. (From the SW and SE)

- FedEx will starting flying 757's into GFK in July replacing the 727 service

- UND just started flying N68MN (MN Governor's old ride) in addition to the two other KingAir's they have.

- GFK was the busiest GA airport in the country last month. Over 34,000 operations. Beat out DVT, DAB, VNY. Put us 16th busiest for April. In comparison MSP had 37K, LGA had 35K, but ATL has everybody beat at 80K.

I'm sure I'm missing a few things, but this should be enough for everybody to munch on! Tours in the tower are always welcome, I'll even have you make the ATIS! Hope flying or drinking the summer away is going good for you all. Let me know if you have any questions.....

Thanks! Always great to hear what is going on. I know the reporting points are on the agenda for the flight ops meeting Wednesday night, so we will be switching to those shortly.

Keep up the good work!

With the fact that our 900's and 200's fly up to GFK now and will soon be replacing all of the DC-9 flights they generally let us use 35L/17R because if they dont we will cancel the flight in general. Now the Saab on the other hand can land on 35R/17L if we really wanted to get in :)

Thanks for all the updates.

I am going to be up there in July for the aerospace camp. July 12-19. Do you think 27L/9R will be done by then?

Wow actually putting in another 26/9, amazing. They have been talking about that for years.

So will Puddle finally be replaced by something that's somewhat findable? Also, how much further out than Carpet will the SE reporting point be?

I am not sure what puddle is getting replaced with. Maybe the secret party pond will no longer be a secret. I know for sure that truckstop is being replaced with "billboard." It is a little farther out on I-29 where the highway curves and there are a lot of...well, billboards.

Maybe, I'm leaning towards probably not. If it stays dry will be the only hope for them to finish sometime in July. The Airport Authority had July 4th as a finish date, but the contractors have said no way. From what I understand they will impose penalties each day/week it isn't done. So it's probably safe to say it will be done this year for sure. How about that?! haha

Hey Dave,

Long time no talk! I'm not going to guarantee it will be 'findable', but probably can't get much worse finding 'Puddle' in the Winter.

The SW points will be: 'Watergate' (outer), and 'Newman' (inner). Watergate is another stream/body of water that has a dam attached to it that is maybe 1 or 2 miles south of Puddle. Newman is a group of homes south of Wassau.

The SE points will be: 'Billboards' (outer), and 'Powerplant' (inner). Billboards is easy. Just follow I-29 and when it curves and you see the billboards your there. 'Powerplant' is a electrical substation in the GF Industrial Park. It's just west of I-29 and south of DeMers Ave. Near LM Fiberglass plant. I voted to call it 'Shocker' but no dice.

Watergate shouldn't be too bad. The diversion dam is definitely more noticeable than puddle, since it is right by the party pond.

Well I guess I'll just have to wait for next time I go up there which probably will be in 2010 to see the new runway. Maybe the Airport Authority will increase the penalties so that the contractors will hurry up and get it done before July 19, got to have hope!

Too bad no more Wauzaaaaaaaah... Why the change in the SE points? Truckstop and Carpet were they easiest to find out of the whole lot of reporting points IMO.
