How much pampering of the passangers do you have to do in corporate aviation? I understand that some companies will expect you to serve drinks, carry lugage, etc. Is this common?
 
Who else is going to do it, or make sure it gets done? It's not that big of a deal. You'll need to be customer service oriented. The line guys/gals are there to help out too.
 
We take care of our passengers, but we don't "pamper" them. We get the ice, coffee, newspapers, and catering...if they want to eat/drink anything, they get up and get it themselves. We don't have any huge airplanes, so honestly for us, if anyone is "serving" drinks, the passengers will give the pilots food and drinks. And if we're lucky, they'll sometimes bring us food to eat. We do carry and load/unload luggage, but it's not a big deal. We carry mostly guys on business, so if there is an overnight, the bags are light. So to answer the question...yes...but most of us aren't the passengers' "bitch", like some people will say.

There are those like myself, who don't mind doing these things, its part of the job. But there are others who think they're too good to do such things, so corporate isn't for them (no I'm not making a generalization about airline pilots, but those with that attitude are probably going to be better suited at an airline).
 
:yeahthat: At the same time there are some companies that want very minimum interaction between the pilots and pax. Why so?... no clue.
 
The FA's serve the drinks but we pilots hump the bags ;-) especially for the ladies. Its the polite thing to do. The owner gets his own but we would carry them if needed to. He signs our pay checks.

I am not at all being sarcastic, when I ask the following question of you corporate guys...

Do passengers/business people ever tip you? Or invite you to round out a foursome on the golf course?

I recently did a charter and one of the passengers tried to give me $100, but I didn't take it and the Capt. didn't either.

We fly the same people around all the time, so there's no reason for our guys to tip us. We'll occasionally get invited to dinner, but our guys are ALWAYS working and the Pres/CEO doesn't play golf (or so I've been told) so that doesn't happen either. They take care of us in other ways...ie no limits on meals or hotels, so it's all good.
 
Perks can vary widely in this business. My boss goes to several sporting events and makes sure that we get tickets if we want them.
 
I guess it really depends on where you fly in to. Most of the time you will unload the luggage, but the line service guys will put it on a cart and take it in for you. They usually ask if we need papers, ice, coffee, etc. So it's not all that bad.
Tips can vary with the people you fly. If you see new faces everyday and you're flying back and forth to vegas... then tips can be pretty good.

Being a savagely awful golfer, I would take perverse pleasure in being invited to play on some of the really exclusive courses that CEOs/high-powered celebs play...
