You are required to go a first class medical. But as FO, you are allowed to let it lapse to a second class.

Besides, you don't want to learn that you can't get first class certified the month before your type rating checkride. Bad news!

Here at the corporate icon that is AMR, we too are required to INITIALLY hold a First Class Medical, but, as FO's can let it "slip" to a Second Class Med after 6 months.

I dont drink coffee 24 hrs prior to avoid PVCs and lie down for few minutes before the electrodes are connected to stabilize the blood flow. The procedure takes about a minute.
