Gear in your flight bag...

Hey everyone, it must've been at least 6 mos. since I've posted but I'm back. Long story short, I sort of ditched the idea of flying for a while and dropped off of here as well. Wouldn't you know it, my job had me driving by the airport rather often and the thought of flying came to my mind again. This time, I was like, "screw it, I'll start on my PPL and see what happens." So I'm gonna try and get my First Class Medical on Friday and then see about finding a CFI (definitely going the FBO route). So I was just wondering if there was any gear you guys have found essential for your flight bag (besides a headset, flash light and sectional)

Pretty much all you need at this point!

Medical, headsets and a sectional! :)

Pepto-Bismol Chewables!

Good suggestions all around guys (especially the Pepto, lol)...thanks. The only reason I'm getting a first class is I want to know if there's something that will limit me from flying professionally - better to find out sooner rather than later, I think.

Get the first class.

If you have any complications, talk with Walt.

Welcome back! ;)

I always ensure my student's leave these behind at the flightschool.

Better get used to not having either, ready for that first pilot job....

Not a good idea....what if you have to divert?? Tough to buy food and gas without money!

Thats the dumbest thing I've ever read. Not everyone decides to work at low paying jobs. I started out making very good money as a F.I.

Good idea but don't give up on flying if you can't get a 1st class medical!!!

I apologise, I was playing into the stereotype. Maybe I should have said 'first airline job! I should certainly have added a sarcasm tag for the humourless.

I too am in a decently paying first FI job, so maybe there is hope for the industry yet?

Lets see, headset, kneeboard, sectional, (if you'll be near a class B airport you'll want the terminal chart as well), AFD, E6B, Plotter, Flashlight & extra batteries, fuel strainer, pad of paper, pens and or pencils, and that should do it. I also carried a calculator for weight & ballance and performance calculations. Eventually you might want to think about a tranciver and a handheld GPS, but those can wait.

Definately lots of pens and pencils. It always amazes me how such a small plane swallows up so many of them! It always is a bonus when you find one in the plane though!
