Garrett powered King Air 90

Flew a Garrett King Air E90 yesterday for the first time - interesting bird. Can't make up my mind if I like the PT6 King Air or the Kilo Alpha conversion I flew. I fly a C90 with -28s now and then and have always enjoyed it, but I did like the performance of the Garretts.

Anyone else have any observations?

Well... YOU flew it! what do you think? personally, if it performs better, whats not to like? I bet they burned less fuel than the PT6-28 (just a guess)

They burn less gas and are usually faster... though a bit louder. Garretts are fantastic engines... Man i miss my MU2

Only thing that is a bit of a faff is the starting procedure, not like the PT6 at all, but the performance is pretty cool. The big drawback is the lack of useful load (can't fill it with fuel for an opener - well you could, but if you got in it you'd be over gross)
It was hard to say if it burned less as we didn't get very high or go that far. I imagine on a good run it probably would over the -28s. I had it pulled back on the way home and we were indicating 200kts on 550pph so my guess is yes.
On this flight we did a required check on the props which had just been overhauled and that involved pulling the the engines to flight idle and dropping the flaps and gear with the props in high RPM and maintain 1.25Vso - my word did that puppy drop out of the sky! Then it was an approach to a stall and check for any yawing or to see if the NTS lights came on.
I'm going to be doing some instructing in the thing once I get signed off as a PIC, so I'll post some pics and some stories......
