Garmin GTN family

Has anyone here had any real world experience with the Garmin GTN family, specifically the GTN625? My employer is FINALLY replacing the KLN90 boat anchors. They look like very capable units.

No love for the 90B?? :D

I'm looking forward to seeing Garmin in the cockpit finally

I'm a little skeptical about the touch screen. With how small some of the screens are I am curious to see how difficult they are going to be to use in turbulence. I'd like to hear someones experince with that.

Flew with a guy doing his CFII in his own Warrior with a GTN750. I was amazed at the capabilities and resolution of this unit. I wish we could replace the 430s in the Hawker.

I can't complain about the KLN-90B too much, with the exception of half a cycle in December, I've been in the nextgen every cycle since September. But its gonna be good for the customers to finally have WAAS throughout the whole fleet.

I have about 150 hours with the GTN 750/650 combo and have been really impressed. I also have 200 hours G1000 time and prefer the GTN hands down.

The GTN is very user friendly and intuitive. You could almost hop in and use the system with very little or even no training. The whole system just make sense and you can very quickly and efficiently program in what you need. Being able to program in frequencies by just touching them in the list is such a great feature. When you are busy preparing for an approach and things are happening fast the added efficiency is great.

I have experienced no issues with turbulence being a problem with the touch screen any more than any other knob/button in the cockpit. If you brace your hand along the edge of the screen as recommended its a non issue. If it is a problem the major funtions such as changing frequencies can be done on the one knob that is on the device. I have actually never used it in 150 hrs. FWIW I live in Colorado and spend plenty of time getting bumped around in some nasty stuff.

The high resolution screen is wonderful to use and displays information logically. With XM weather you can actually overlay clouds on top of radar information. This really helps you see when you are going to be entering into cloudy areas and not just rain. The system can pretty much display any weather info and maps you can get on the internet.

Anyway, I know I sound like a salesman at this point but I would be happy to answer any questions. You will love the system no question.

We recently replaced our KLN in our PC12 with the GTN 750, and I love it. I have several hundred hours with the 430/530 and G1000 and I'd take the 750 anytime. Touchscreen has given us no issues. I was sceptical of the touch screen in rough rides, but it is very responsive and the "buttons" are big enough even old people could get the right ones while experiencing the shakes. It's a great unit and it's been a very nice addition to our PC12.
