I've got a barely used Garmin 196 GPS with all the accessories... chargers, weighted down dashboard holder, software...etc for sale!

I dont need it anymore and need to sell it.

with my mine it came with a card and i just go to the garmin website.. click on the version that i have.... on the right hand side on the screen it says download updates.. i click that...it downloads them to the card and i put that card back into the gps and it puts the new version on to the gps... i did pay extra for the card maybe thats why mine are free? but if i remember right if you have the usb cable you can do the same thing

Welcome to the Jeppesen Aviation Database Update web page. Completing this process will allow you to download online database updates to your Garmin handheld aviation GPS.
The Jeppesen database contains the general aviation data (NavData) used by pilots (Airports, VORs, NDBs, SUAs, etc.).
Pricing
  • Single Update: $49.95
  • Annual Service: $295 for 13 consecutive cycles, one update per cycle *Great Savings!
Updates are available every 28 days. For your convenience, they are posted on this website 7 days before their effective date. If you miss a cycle, we cannot provide a refund.
Please Note: Garmin aviation units can only hold one Jeppesen database coverage area at a time. When you update your database, the old one is erased.
