G1000 GPS status page

Hey all,

This has stumped both myself and my CFII class. We didn't do too much digging but a quick search of the G1000 manual yielded no answers. So....

On the G1000 GPS status page, you can view the signal strengths of all the associated satellites. What is the difference between a green status bar and a blue status bar?

Thanks for the help guys!

I'm pretty sure green means the signal is locked on and strength is good. blue (blue-gray-ish) means the signal is still being acquired and evaluated- should turn green momentarily. At least that's as best I can remember. I did my Double-I in a G-1000 & I don't recall even being asked about it

Blue Bars mean that the receiver has collected data from the satellite and it CAN be used. Green Bars mean that issue satellite is currently BEING used by the receiver, with the "D" meaning it's being used for Differential computations. You can also have checkered bars if a satellite is being rejected by the Fault Detection & Exclusion.

Hope that helps makes the fog foggier =P j/k

Haha thanks for the info guys!! It was just a curiosity question more than anything.

Usually the #1 GPS reciever is used for navigation because it's always booted up first. The blue means in use (like most other things in the G1000) green is standby. That was taught to me by a Cessna CFI when I went there to accept a brand new C172S A few years back.

G1000 Pilot's Guide - Page 28:

- No bar—Receiver is looking for the indicated satellite
- Hollow bar—Receiver has found the satellite and is collecting data
- Light blue bar—Receiver has collected the necessary data and the satellite signal can be used
- Green bar—Satellite is being used for the GPS solution
- Checkered bar—Receiver has excluded the satellite (Fault Detection and Exclusion)
- “D” indication—Denotes the satellite is being used as part of the differential computations
