Future of Delta and their hubs?

What does everyone think will happen to Delta in the future? I heard shortly after Labor Day an big announcement will be made with a plan for their future.

There are rumors about closing the DFW and SLC hubs. I agree with closing down DFW, but SLC??? It's smaller than the CVG and ATL hubs, but don't they need a gateway to the Western US? Also, closing SLC would jeopardize the operations at LAX. In fact, Doug has said that he eventually wants to end up flying the LAX 767 category. Anyway, Delta just couldn't be the same and probably not as large without the SLC hub.

By the way, (questions for Doug) speaking of DFW, is it only an MD-88/90 pilot base now, or are there still 733's? Do you miss DFW?
 
I see DFW closing as a hub. Probably will reduce to less than 10 flights a day on wide bodies to feed ASA. Closing SLC doenst make much since because we still fly aircraft up to the northwest and Alaska from there.
 
it's not even an MD88/90 base now.. I think they're only RJ's out of there...

and yeah, he misses it because it's hard to switch bases when you know quite a few of the guys that fly out of there....when you switch bases, it's like starting back at ground zero with not knowing anyone, having to get used to flying with new people...different airport.. different passengers.. all that fun stuff!
 
I dunno! Remember, we started with bases at SEA/PDX/ORD/MSY/IAH/MCO and SFO after the Western Air purchase.

Personally, I don't know and I largely don't care. I'd like, however, to send "Virginia Avenue" a bill for each time I take time out of my day to work on their self-created problems.

Ask someone with access to the ACS forums. They finance those boards, spin rumor and then you've got every forum junkie in the cosmos asking "Doug, what do you think about Delta doing XYZ?" Hell if I know, d00d! I go to work, do my job and leave it in my flight kit that I forget where I left it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
Doug the ACS forums are always good of great rumors and complaints. Just wait until Sept 8th, supposedly the day Delta is going to announce the plans, I am sure it will running wild there. Fortunately for me I also can leave all my Delta problems there in the break room. The good thing is I dont have to find black flight bag among the masses down there just for me a white tug with a pretty legible number on the side of it
