Furlough is the ProPilot Magazine Watchdog for 2010 :)

If it ain’t a Boeing, I’m not going. No choice.
Well we always knew that our little Golden Retriever was an awesome dog. But i'm pleased to say that the folks over at Professional Pilot Magazine agreed!

If you happen to see the October issue of Pro Pilot you can see Furlough on page 24. He won the "Watchdog Contest" for 2010!

In October of 1998 I was furloughed from AirTran and fortunate enough to be re-hired by Chautauqua Airlines as a Saab 340 first officer. I didn't have much money when I met my girlfriend (now wife) so for our "dates" we did things that didn't cost much. One was visiting the local humane society and spending time with the dogs there.

After a while, she and I moved in together and I was hired by US Airways. We rented a house with a fenced yard and decided that we were in a position that we could adopt one of those dogs. So in January of 2000 we went to the Western PA humane society to look for a dog. Most of the dogs had name-tags on their cages... except for one lonely little Golden Retriever puppy. The rest of his litter had been adopted and he was left alone. He didn't bark or wag or jump up and down when we walked by his cage.

"You poor little guy, you don't even have a name", I said as we walked past. As I walked away I heard him whimper...

I stopped and asked that they bring him out for me. He crawled up into my lap and promptly fell asleep.

Well the next day we brought him home. He slept so much that we named him Furlough. (the morbid joke being that he and I would spend a lot of time sleeping together if I were to be furloughed again!)

And we did... So Furlough grew up with us moving from job to job. From Pittsburgh to Cincinnati and finally to Arkansas. When we finally had a baby they grew to be best friends. Now he's about to turn 11 years old and we're just so proud to share our little Furlough with the aviation community through that article. Thanks Pro Pilot for recognizing our awesome dog!

:clap::clap::D :D

Congrats!! Sounds like a great dog!

Just remember, this was another part of Alex's story and it received a nice laugh from the audience. :)

Alex talked about my dog? Weird... Was this speech inspirational or horrifying?

Sounds like he was honest with you regarding the challenges associated with the profession. I'm glad to hear that.
