I flew a C-421B yesterday with a pilot friend of mine. We did ORL-TYS-MEM-ORL.
Between the two of us we have over 20,000 hrs. Yeah you can see this one coming
We switched seats at Signature MEM so I could fly back to ORL. We switched headsets and he was in a hurry to go. Signature MEM has a direct two way phone-radio in the pilot briefing room where I had already picked up my clearance.
While I was adjusting my seat he was bugging me to start the engines, so I did. While I was STILL trying to adjust the seat (he's 5'5 and I'm 6'1) he got on the radio and called ground - "Ground Golden Eagle N----- is ready to taxi with clearance."
The response was "ok sounds good to me!"
We looked at each other? Whah????
"Ground can we have taxi directions?"
"Sure, just go straight ahead to 18C"
ok that sounded a little better.
We taxi out to the hold short. I reach over to switch #1 to tower and then I see it. The transmitter/receiver switch is set to COM 2.
The girl at Signature gave us taxi clearance to 18C!
Obviously we had a little discussion with Tower and Ground as to why we were on an active taxiway without clearance! Thankfully they were cool about it.

Other notes: Signature MEM is pretty cool as far as Signatures go. They did not make us do the stupid photo ID thing to get on the ramp, or that ridiculous "security receipt" although all the signs were up. I like the direct phone to clearance and also liked the relatively low fuel price. This could be because there is another FBO on the airport.
I've noticed they are HORRIBLE when they are the only place on the field, like MIA, JAX, CLT etc.
It's why I call them THE BORG.
