Fueling the Merger Gossip Fire...

Which reminds me, I need to resecure the remote and refresh my beverage.

And what about all these carriers that arent ALPA but Teamsters? I'm curious where they would fit. On the bottom? In the middle?

Question for Velo:
Do you allow the "non-ALPA unionized" people (teamsters,etc....) on your jumpseat too?
Or is it specific to ALPA carriers? Just curious, because from what i understand by your posted-it would lead me to belive ALPA only.

Teamsters, SWAPA, NPA...all are welcome.

And the ALPA number idea would only be applied in an ALPA/ALPA airline merger.

Everyone else would be stapled. :sarcasm:

Just kidding. The merger/frag policy only applies to ALPA/ALPA mergers.

That IS true though. If you're merged with an ALPA carrier and you're not an ALPA carrier, for the most part, you'll be a pretty bride for the acquiring carrier.

You KNOW you're going to be my FO, Velo. Just you wait! ( :sarcasm: ) :)

"Hi Captain Dough, I'm with Jetblue and I was wondering if I could ride on your jumpseat today?"

"Does someone hear teeth grinding?"

:D

No, because BOTH pilots (according to Section 115 of the ALPA Admin manual) have to be completely comfortable with the jumpseater. All the F/O has to say is, "I'm not comfortable having a protoscab on the jumpseat, Captain Doug." And Capt. Doug will surely do the right thing in the name of good CRM...deny the request.

Don't believe me, the next time you see a USAir crew find out if they're East or West. If they're West, say DoH. If they're East, say Ratio. Then stand back and enjoy the fireworks. I saw a crew in the van in DEN one day and just said "Nicolau" and the Captain about stroked out before we got to the airport.

Funny you mention that. I was in PHL the other day and a US East captain caught my JetCareers bagtag and started talking to me about flying. Turns out he did his military training at the now civilian airport I got my ratings from.

We had a great conversation and then I mentioned that I was non-reving on an America West employee's bennies. He then proceeded to give me a 30 minute lesson on the proper merging of pilot seniority lists. He basically said he would ride the airline into the ground before he signed a contract based on he Nicolau
Award.

Hate to say it cause I know what it's like to lose a job, but that airline needs a mercy killing. Until they either get their act together or "go quietly into that good night," they will be a drag on the whole industry. I have several friends flying there and they agree.

Without starting a "Nicolau-Good or Bad?" thread, (I can get my fill on the ALPA National Forum, thanks,) I do feel that the Easties were given a HUGE Bohica. With that said, the Westies weren't responsible for said pillaging, Wolf, Gangwal, Lakefield, Parker, et al were. It's way past time for them to figure out how to recoup their losses jointly.

I'm still feeling something with USAir and United, but that's really just based on employee rumors and making too many casual connections between trade journal articles. :laff:

I swear you follow the news right you can get some good predictions going though. I still can't believe how my dad predicted America West and USAir much the same way, just by piecing news articles together.

:yup::yup::yup: Damn, I sound like a giddy a.net nerd!:banghead:

Mergers blow. The only folks that benefit are the lawyers, the upper management folks that get bought off and the kids over at airliners.net that armchair quarterback the scenario.
