FSS Wx Briefings

Ok so maybe it's just been too long, but today I called FSS to get an abbreviated WX briefing and it was more difficult than I ever imagined.

Abbriviated, Standard, and Outlook right? Right.

Ok so I ask for an abbriviated Wx briefing for aircraft xxxxxx, for the RHV area for the next two hours.

Does anyone read anything wrong with that?

Usually an abbreviated briefing is to supplement a standard briefing you've previously received. I usually get one when I've received a standard a few hours prior to departure just to see if anything has changed.

If you're just looking to see if there is any pertinent information in your area (local), just tell them "I am making a local flight out of XYZ today and want to see if there is anything that I may need to make note of". I do it all the time when I am instructing locally.

OAK FSS?

What did you want for the next 2 hours? TFR, NOTAMs, Area forecast? Did you tell him what you wanted or just told him ...for the RHV area for the next two hours?

I just said for RHV area, so I guess it was my fault.

It was Hawthorne...my cell still likes to pick them instead of Oaktown.

Hmmm....well, my cell still picks up OAK instead of Rancho. Its unfortunate because I don't think I've ever had a pleasant experience talking to a briefer from OAK FSS.
