FSDO's, DPE's & Multi Checkrides

Is there any obligation to use your local FSDO and/or DPE's for a part 141 checkride? For a part 61 checkride?

Also, we have a Seneca on leaseback and I'm going to use it to give one of my co-workers their MEI. Does the DPE have to be specially qualified for that aircraft? I notice on the DPE locator at faa.gov there are aircraft types listed under many of the examiners' names. Is that for all checkrides or only specific ones, like the ATP?

Usually only for initial CFI's there is an obligation to fly with the FAA. In Phoenix and I believe Las Vegas you can go with a DPE but you are now required to 'schedule' a DPE with the FSDO. If there is no DPE availble then I guess the plan is you go with a FAA

That is required for any Multi-Engine checkride. At least that's the way it works here in AZ.

In LAS you must schedule with the FSDO and if they cant get you in, they'll set you up with a DPE. They do reserve the right to test all initial applicants and you really have no choice who you go with.

Well I can only hope that Wichita doesn't have any Twin Comanche qualified examiners and I can do my MEI as initila with the DPE. :)

This MEI I'm doing wouldn't be the initial instructor rating, so we don't have to worry about going to the FSDO. The guy is actually one of the assistant chief instructors. We also have an intern who's getting his ME add-on to his commercial, so basically the same situation applies to him.

It sounds like we have to go to specifically qualified DPE's for the aircraft type, but not necessarily in our FSDO area.

I did all of my CFI rides with the FAA. I saved a boat load by doing such. I thought the FAA was a little tougher than most DPEs but they also seem to know a little more about regs and some common misconceptions so I would definately do it that way again. I didnt fail anyone of my CFI rides (or any ride at that :) ).
