FSDO Opns Inspectors

I just did a search on topic, and can't find many current references. Since retiring from active aviation 23 years ago, when I lost my medical, I haven't kept up with our flying industry. So my question is: Are the FSDO inspectors any better ( or worse) than they were 23 years ago? Have they changed the way they do business; are they any more helpful??

And kinda related, how many experienced pilots would ever consider becoming an inspector, doing inspections and certifications and investigations??

Wait wait wait.....FSDO inspectors do business? You mean at one point and time they actually did something besides stand around and drink coffee?

I've thought about going to the Dark Side, I have a fairly broad base of experience from which to form an opinion as an inspector. I'm old, so it makes no sense to take a government job. If you're young and can take advantage of the benefits of a federal job I wouldn't try to dissuade you from it.

How does that old saying go? Those that can't do teach, those that can't teach inspect or something like that?

Really? I always thought it would be a good option when my body gets too worn out for flying or wrenching, and to help top off the retirement. Plus all them paid holidays...

I don't think I could keep the job. I mean with as much as we know is so so wrong with the FAA, how could you ever enforce their ridiculousness?

As you get exposed to the workings of other government departments, you come to realise that the FAA is up amongst the most average. Yesterday I watched someone spend a million dollars because he was scared, and then changed his mind about the delivery fee. No takebacksies....
