Frustration

I'm just worn out from dealing with students and fellow instructors and feel like I need a break. Maybe a lot of it comes from working 10+ hours a day 6 days a week and not seeing the kind of progress out of my students that I want to. Add to that the lousy job outlook in the near future and it's real easy to lose sight of the big picture.

I've noticed in myself that when I'm working 10, 12, even 14 hour days, 6 days/week, my perspective changes pretty noticeably. I don't show much on the outside, but it doesn't take much to tick me off internally.

On the other hand, when I have an easy, consistent schedule, I usually can't wait to go flying. Lately I've had a real nice schedule of 8-10 hour days, Mon-Fri with every weekend off. Now I'm always feeling like, "Let's roll! Time to go flying!" even when dealing with more difficult cases.

Bottom line: find a way to get some rest. As you said, the industry is frozen and you won't be going anywhere for a while. Unless you need every penny to keep from starving or becoming homeless, cut back on your schedule a bit, settle in for the long haul, and don't burn yourself out.

Ours are inconsistent and unpredictable. That's a large part of what's driving me up the wall.

Ah, standardization in the 141 environment is what can allow 141 schools to work best. Otherwise it is just chaos.

It's funny, I'm going through the same issues with 141 myself, coming from a 61 background. I will say that my multi-comm ride back in VNY was pretty much a full IFR checkride in itself. The MEI definitely didn't prepare me for that, but fortunately I had a solid instrument instructor and was able to power through.

I really hear where you're coming from; I feel as though I could have made the same post myself. Like someone else said, take a few days off if your budget allows.
