Crazy looking at those Meridian birds knowing that I controlled all of them for 2 and a half years. Every number I look at, I can recall a callsign with them (SHAD CARP SPIN HAWK TALON..... on and on....) Great shots.

I recall trapping both 112 and 147 in the short field gear with issues on two separate occasions. 147 was a student solo and we had to have an IP fly in BUSTER from Joe Williams to help him out. It was just ahead of Katrina, and they were cramming flights in. It was dark, and POURING rain. We all earned the $ that night... So many great memories.

First time I've heard the name Joe Williams in a while. That place was an absolute clown show. Nothing like 6 student solos all raging out there and back at the same time for CQ fclp bounces. My most absurd moment was asking for low key out of the break. Let's just say I'm glad the tower folks appreciated a good show and didn't complain to anyone. God we did some dumb stuff back then :)

JW was the best duty for us. Rode my moto from the base through those back country roads, was away from the command, nobody higher than an E6 within 20 miles....shenanigans were not only authorized, but encouraged, and frequently requested. What year were you in Merids?

And then when I had my camera out there.... Holy ship show.

I went through there from Jan 2009-April 2020; VT-7. Yeah you could get away with a lot of crazy stuff in MS that you can't most other places. Real nice folks, just too small of a town for me, and the remnants of segregation are a little too apparent still for my taste.

Hey now, there are a few Kingsville birds in there :)

Never let anything squid-life related get you down. Silver wings will always trump wings of gold, be they USN or their dirty little ground bretheren.

:D

So I visited the 435th at Randolph in San Antonio....concerning the first two RSAF students we just got to train, the Navy way. Damn, was I jealous at the standard of living!!! Freaking Air Force!!!

The Navy could have nice things if they just stopped their insistence of buying and operating boats. Those things are expensive.

<--- grew up near Lemoore (by the sea).

Man, I'd love to fly a plane onto a boat.

Spent countless hours underway standing up there in Vultures Row. Truly amazing watching those guys working. The flight deck is like an orchestra during flight ops.
