Friend down under sent this photo of recently restored Aussie machine.

It filled the need at the time. It wasn't the fastest but it was nimble enough that the Japanese Zeroes had respect for its ability to turn.

What you can't see in this photo is one HUGE collector that dumps just aft the pilot seat. It must not only be cramped in that seat but the noise incredible.

The Boomerang obviously was a single seat fighter and I pity the guy in the back if he has to try and exit in a hurry.
