Frmer Avantair DoM sentenced

You know, I'm not the greatest pilot in the world, and I've missed things on a preflight before. Never the elevator missing....

Eh, if you've been around the pattern a couple of times in 135, it's not hard to imagine how it happens. Taxi in, met by a giant SUV full of angry rich people with 5000 bags who think you should have been there an hour ago, C/A calms the patricians while F/O deals with fueling. It's certainly no excuse for the pilots, but it's definitely one of those "there but for the grace of the Sky Bully go I" moments. It only took 5 years for the wheels of justice to make this guy wear an ankle bracelet for 8 months and pay out a whopping two grand. Dollars will get you donuts he's already back at work in South Florida.

Sometimes you're brain just doesn't process what your eyes are telling it, especially if something is missing. We had one of our Lears taxi onto our ramp after a trip and something just didn't look right, I was busy at the time, but I couldn't stop looking at it, albeit from a distance. Took about 3 minutes to realize an outboard MLG door had departed.

They left an elevator on the runway in Camarillo.

There's no way this should be found "accidental" beyond the first leg the airplane flew.

It's always nice to read someone's 135 "true stories". I can tell when someone has been in the trenches vs when they've had a SUV full of good luck, sunshine and unicorns.

The block in and watch the SUV roll up is only bested in terms of a fire drill by the block in and the FAA rolls up.

What's your theory? They knew the airplane was "a little weird" in pitch, but figured they'd write it up in a maintenance base? Be serious. Yeah, they F'ed up royally, and if their careers are forfeit, so be it. But it's not the first time such a thing has been missed, and I tell you now it won't be the last, so long as 135 works the way it does. *shrug*

Like I said, you can tell whose been there and who hasn't. It all is for naught however. The crew was hung out to dry 8 years ago...
