Airplane crashes at French Valley, damages a row of parked planes
A small aircraft crashed just before 2:30 p.m. today at French Valley Airport located in the 37500 block of Winchester Rd., according to a Riverside County Fire Department report.
The pilot was uninjured and his passenger, a female, was transported to an area hospital with complaints of pain.

According to witnesses at the scene, the fixed wing, single-engine Piper Cherokee was airborne before crashing into at least six other airplanes parked near the cafe.
Witnesses were unable to confirm whether or not the plane was taking off or landing when it clipped the tops of the first few parked planes before colliding into the others upon landing.
At least six planes sustained damage — three were leaking fuel — however, first responder radio transmissions indicated as many as eight airplanes may have been hit in the crash.
No other injuries were reported.

Holy sounds like a bad day.
“Tentatively, the pilot caught cross winds, came in and clipped a plane that was on a taxi,” the sergeant said.
The plane then crashed onto the runway and barreled into several other unoccupied aircraft.

Sounds like a hellish day to fly anyways in a cheeroke. So hot today, would just be a sitting oven.

fholbert Thats what they were saying. Not sure how the winds were.
This WX is March, KRIV, which is pretty close to French Valley

KRIV is close to French Valley?

French Valley as in F70?

KRIV is a good 20 miles N if memory serves me correctly. Topography is different between the two airports, regardless of distance anyway. Winds observed at KRIV are not necessarily representative of those at F70.

F70 is, oddly, one of my favorite SoCal airports. Miss that area.

Edit: okay, 20 miles. Guess that is close in relative terms :sarcasm:

Carry on with MMQBing.

I remember when before French Valley airport existed, there was Rancho California (2LO) airport at Temecula, to the south. French Valley replaced it around 1990ish.

Ah yes...some very loyal family friends had just moved to that area about 93ish. First exposure to SoCal about that time.

Awesome memories.

Oh how'd I'd love to end up back out that way. Maybe eventually. Eventually being 15+ years, lol

I don't believe there's anything left of the former Rancho California, as I believe it's underneath a housing subdivision now. Flew into there a few times just prior to its closure.

Beautiful area out there.

Crazy! I was just there yesterday for a written test. The airport has changed a lot, they recently lengthened the runway as well. Really busy on the weekends. Good to hear everyone was ok.

Yep, I flew there from Huntington Beach's Meadowlark Airport.

Why do I get the feeling this might be a case of boy showboating for girl?

Purely conjecture and speculation. I have ZERO information other than what I've read here.

It looks like a Cessna 180/185 died as a result of this tragedy. Not sure if there were any other losses that are meaningful, but the Cessna makes me sad.
