Freedom Airlines?

I'll be flying my first Embraer 170 this Friday, JFK-Atlanta on Delta. It says operated by Freedom Airlines on my itinery. Never heard of them and cannot find any details on APC or FlyferFood. Anyone know anything?

I didn't know Mesa (Freedom Air is part of Mesa) had 170's.

Well it said E70 on my itinery. I construed that to mean E-170, buit I guess I better go check. Oh and YAY! I get to fly the bottomfeeder. LOL.

So anyone know much about Shuttle America? I see they are one of the 3 republic companies. If they share a master seniority list, and seem to have the newest ride on the block, does that mean pilots from CHQ move over to this plane?

I was just wondering. The 170 satisfies the SJS the most; ya know, the 170 looks like a little mini 737 compared to the rest of the back mounted regional jets.

I am at work dispatching for Freedom Airlines right now and we only have Dash 8s and EMB-145s.

search for Freedom A-list and you will see what happened there. Other forums (Sorry Doug) have a lot of info as well on the this subject.

Shuttle used to be a small SAAB operator out of (I think) Fort Wayne, IN. They got bought by Republic, mostly for their certificate, as a place to put the 170s. Shuttle had about 80 pilots or so at the time and instead of doing the right thing and integrating them by DOH or something else fair, they pretty much got stapled to the bottom of the Republic master seniority list. Sort of sucked for them.

The way I remember it was there were about 80 furloughs announced at Republic, and then the next day Shuttle was stapled onto the list. Guess who got the 80 furloughs.

At least that's how I remember things shaking out, Bandit_Driver could probably tell us more.

The statements above with regard to to Republic's acquisition of S5 are misleading and inaccurate. How about some accurate information from someone who was there??

S5 was purchased as a certificate home for 170s. Their 80 pilots were integrated (NOT stapled) in to the RAH seniority list. The integration was negotiated at length and finally arbitrated. The arbitrator ruled that the 80 Saab drivers were to be slotted in to our seniority list on a ratioed basis starting at about the 70% level. FAR from a staple. This DID mean that none of the S5 guys could hold CA, but those who were CAs on the Saab were pay-protected at their Saab captain rates. A number of those folks are now in CRJ captain training.

NOBODY at RAH was furloughed at any time over this. There have been no furloughs of ANYBODY in the three years I've been at RAH ... on the contrary, over 900 people have been added to the list below me in that time, including the S5 Saab pilots ... half of them were added in a block about 50-75 numbers below me (the CAs), and the FOs were slotted in below that on a 6:1 or 7:1 (I can't remember which) ratio. All RAH pilots hired after the date of the S5 acquisition are junior to all of the "original" S5 guys.

For whomever asked, YES, Shuttle America, Chautauqua, and Republic are all on a single master seniority list. FOs are new hires, who are frozen in type, certificate, and status until upgrade. As seniority allows, a RAH FO can upgrade on any type (CRJ, ERJ, E170), any certificate, or in any domicile as vacancies permit.

Russ, nothing against you, but you've got to admit, to have been a 10 year SAAB captain at S5 and then after integration end up below a 2 year ERJ FO at RAH is a pretty bad deal.

I thought Shuttle America operated Dash 8s. I remember seeing them out of ISP.

If I was pay protected it wouldn't bother me one bit.

Fine what if you were the number 5 FO scheduled to upgrade in a few months and then were dropped down to sitting and waiting for upgrade for a few years?

Sure, pimping the 4 stripes at your dream airline, it wouldn't really matter. Just don't forget about the little guys.

EDIT: They used to fly Dash-8s and then went into BK and got bought by Wexford (just around 9/11) and started flying the SAAB. Then they got bought by RAH and switched to the 170.
