France bans short-haul flights

My very first flying assignment off OE at Endeavor was a repositioning flight from JFK to LGA. It was dark and immediately after takeoff we were given the visual to 31 and did we have the tanks in sight.

In my head I was still on short call dreaming about when I flew helicopters and actually knew what I was doing.

If there was high speed rail between PHX and LAS and LAX, you’d never catch me on a flight between those cities again.

I can leave my house at 1300 and be in Vegas by 1800.

Otherwise I drive 45 minutes to parking. It takes about 10 minutes to get to the terminal. 10-15 minutes to get through security. Then I sit for an hour. Fly for about an hour. Can’t move. Deplane takes about 15 minutes. Get to rideahare and wait for an Uber.

Ick.

I miss the Q already......though fortunately QX has retained their free beer (often a full can)

Major airline pilots: Scope clause now! Regionals are destroying mainline jobs and growth!

[get scope, Qs disappear, 737 now goes into RDM, PSC, EUG]

Also Major airline pilots: What is this garbage 5 leg days into RDM, PSC, EUG! Management suuuuuucksss

By far my favorite flight.. nothing can top it.

I actually meant i missed riding it.....i guess it sort of became a nostalgic thing for me over the years. However, your point is valid. I personally don't mind turns in unusual places, but 5 leg day would be garbage. I've seen a few in OT that were like 3 day trips with 4 per day (and not the milk run).....that's working really hard for 15:45 of credit.

I don't mind doing RJ style flying, we already do plenty in the 757 and some of the smaller towns are very charming. Just keep it consistent. A whole day of hopping around the southeast is no problem, but that FLL penalty lap after a transcon is brutal.

One day, I am going to look at the news, and it's going to say "France bans France"...
Always funny to me that we consider them weak or something, when their national anthem literally talks about spilling the blood of the tyrannical/illegitimate and using it to water the furrows of their fields.

Or how we have people who actively agitate for raising our retirement age here, whereas (especially if you believe boomer facespace) Paris "literally burned*" when such a thing was even contemplated.

Huh.

* not really, I was there, it's fine.

The TGV high speed train network was part of their 1960s socialist vision. Slogan: “Progress means nothing unless it is shared by all". They still hold world speed records. Whatever the current ‘woke‘ complaints it sure means something.

Why yes, public transit is inherently “woke.”

I was supposed to wait until 67 for full bennies. Got the hell out at 65, just as soon as I could. Cost a few dollars monthly but, damn, this retirement ... it's a nice life.

Quickest we ever had at QX was Pullman, WA to Lewiston, ID…5-6 min flight, HATED that flight…either at 2350 after a long day, or 0500 to start a long day

I read the whole "France bans France" joke as a jab at the French mentality, often shared in many other European countries, that problems can be solved through more regulation. What that often does is create a bureaucratic monster that is worse than the problem it was trying to solve. Something that barely makes a dent in the actual issue, inconveniences a fair number of people, and pisses off an even larger number.

I like high speed trains. Whenever I'm back in Italy it's generally my preferred mode of transportation in between cities. You don't have to deal with the dog and pony show at airports and they take you right to the center of the city, which is where you want to be most of the time when visiting. Furthermore the service is usually very high quality. If a product is good, people will naturally chose it, there's no need to regulate the market to force that preference.

Of course this doesn't work as well when you're connecting from an international flight, which is why they conveniently left that loophole in there. So the flights will still be operating, only now even more wastefully so with less seats filled. Sure maybe there will be fewer flights, reduced to just enough frequencies to handle connecting traffic, but still just a drop in the bucket. And the elites will also as conveniently be able to fly those routes as they please in their private aircraft (which for the record I'm all in favor of, just don't appreciate the "rules for thee not for me" attitude).
