Fox 1, Fox 2...

How can you see what you are firing at in that vid.?

It's a BVR shot off the radar with two AIM-7s being fired off initially. The comms thereafter regard their getting Tally on the MiGs, noting that one got a shot off, and working their way into AIM-9 range/position.

Didn't the pilots screw up in that engagement, at least at the outset? Just what I've heard or read somewhere...regardless, 2 Mig-23's down :)

I like the Greeks taking on the Turks in the video's as well. Is it Mirage 2000 or F1 vs F-16 or Viper v Viper?

It sounds like it was kabuki theatre for awhile, with each side turning away when the other would commit, back and forth.

That videos brings up another question, what is "angels" is that the altitude the target is at?

in vietnam wouldnt they assign some math problem for the pilot to figure the altitude. Example. Devil 506 on station at angles 15. on his kneeboard for that day you subtract a number like 7. So angles 15 means 8. I have been up way too long studying, so sorry if that makes no sense to anybody but me.

When using unsecure comms in certain environments, there will be a base number for the day. Altitudes will be referenced off the base number such as "base plus 5", "base minus 3" etc. Still used to this day if need be, however the advent of secure comms and the areas we've been operating in hasn't really merited the need.

The angels altitude call is for friendlies. We use Fox 1 as a Red Air (bandit) shooting a Blue and we also use it for Aim-7s. Fox 2 is for heaters (aim-9s). Fox 3 for Aim-120s. Side note, I've flown at Red Flags with the European Viper drivers and I remember hearing them call "Fox 6"...interesting call. What she actually shot were two Fox 3s at a hostile.

Like melting ants with a magnifying glass. Can't say I'd want combat to be challenging for me however.

Besides the ADFs, what other Vipers employ AIM-7s?

Or it could'a been three Fox 2s too...
