I just passed my Commerical - Single-Engine Add-on checkride. A huge thanks goes out to Captain Bob for preparing me for the ride. Four hours in the Cessna and I was ready to go. Bob did/does an excellent job both in the plane and on the ground.

This ride followed my successful Commerical Multi engine checkride last Wednesday. These checkrides are becoming less and less worrisome. Seven checkrides seems like a lot in such a short time, and even though 5 of them are squeezed into the final month, none of it seems, so far at least, rushed or too short of a prep time.

You guys who are planning on coming to Dallas definately made the right choice--excellent instructors, great location, good flying weather and all new Seminoles--cant beat it!

From here, my partner and I will fly a Seminole out to the east coast for CFI school starting Monday where I should do my initial instructor MEI checkride before April 1st, then the CFI single add-on and the CFII the following week.

Congrats man! I can't tell you how much I like to see posts like these! I am usually perform very well under pressure, always have, it's the "pre-game" jitters that I get so terribly.. I guess it's a trade off..

I hope to be in Dallas by mid-April if possible! I'm taking the commerical written Monday and hopefully the CFI written the following Monday..
 
Sounds like Captain Bob is a great guy, Just wondering were the "Captain" part comes from? Ex military or just self appointed.

Not ex-military, and not really self appointed. It sounds kind of pretentious on the surface I know... but the story goes somethig like this:

In early 2003, I had finally completed a lifelong dream of learning to fly. I had just completed and passed my Private Checkride (which you can read about here.) . I was very excited and started calling friends and relatives. After I had told my parents, my mother said to me "Congratulations! Does that mean we can call you Captain Bob now?"

Anyway cut to about three days later: My research begins for a proper flight school to attend and I run across JetCareers.com. It has me list a username. Since I'm not entirely creative in coming up with really cool usernames... added to the fact that I've never really had a nickname growing up... my mind went to my mother congratualting me on my checkride and calling me "Captain Bob".

So... there you have it. Not as interesting as you probably would have hoped, but it felt right at the time. It was only much later when I was asking questions and participating several of the other forums on JC that I realized that when someone had a "Captain" in front of their username it usually meant that I was really talking to a Captain. It was then that I thought it probably sounded pretentious, but I never got around to changing it... and now that I'm well over the hump on the way to being a real "Captain"... it has become more a goal for me to make it a reality.

That was probably waaayy more than you really ever wanted to know... but there it is.

Wow, "my mother said"... Ok that took balls. New hire CFI "over the hump" on the way to captain, Hmm I disagree sorry. And you or your mother thinking your "over the hump" does not justify the thought of the use of Captain IMHO. I would think actual Captain's might take offense of their hard earned status used so freely. Like I said I keep seeing good thing's said about you so you might want to leave the Captain part for chat's between you and mom for a few more years.

Cut a little slack, huh? It's not like he's pretending to be something he's not.

Any *real* captain that takes offense at someone's screen name needs to quit taking him/herself so seriously.

Hey sorry not trying to flame the guy I just don't think it is appropriate. Even he questions it if he wondered when someone was going to ask about it. At first I figured he was military or ex-tug boat captain, I shure did'nt think a private pilot would not call himself Captain. So I asked and answered...no big deal. Ok I'll go take a time out.
 
IFlyRJS - I can give you a little insight into how a REAL Captain feels... My dad (Ex- Naval Aviator) happens to be an Airline Captain and got a kick out of Capt. Bob's story, however, he had less to say about your attitude....

not to mention he spends a lot of his time along with myself and others providing first hand info for people interested in ATP. this thread is about the only flight school thread on this board that remains positive. DON'T WRECK IT. besides, bob calling himself "captain" is a lot less pretentious than your screen name. if you do in fact fly rj's. not trying to flame you but lighten up. when i read your post i was embarrased. for you.

Personally, I think it's pretty cool. Nothing wrong with it at all! My girlfriend gave me a gift when I passed my commercial pilot checkride some time ago - a silver pen engraved with "Captain Williams". Is it offensive to any airline Captains? I don't think it should be. If so, they should probably get a life...

That's just as silly as a Naval officer being offended that airline Captains wear four stripes, just like Naval officers. Just doesn't make much sense...
 
My attitude? Just an opinion. Just wondered about the name, asked, was suprised with the response, and as Bob put it, sounded pretentious. Like I said no big deal.

Sounds like a good user name to me. I'd rather be a "captain" tooling around in a seneca on my way to a 747 left seat than a "C150 Driver" or "Future Pilot" tooling around in a seneca on my way to... If you catch my drift.
