Fort Worth Alliance (AFW)

Hi,

Alliance appears to be a government run airport. I know that Fed Ex and other companies regularly fly in-and-out. Are there any other companies or fbo's based at this airport? Or do all the jobs run through the airport/ govt authority?

Sorry if this is confusing... I'm confused on how this airport works.

Thanks,
AGB

There really isn't anything running out of a AFW unless its Govt. or FedEx from what I know. I worked at DTO for U.S. Flight Academy back in 07 and 08. If you want any information on them I know the Assistant CP there. I can find out if they are hiring or when they will.

I know aside from FX flying in there AA also has a maintenance base there also. It was billed as americas first industrial airport. It was built on a joint venture with the city the FAA and a construction company owned by Ross Perot..

There is a FBO there on the field, but it caters mostly to buisness jets, and it's not very busy. Mecham is closer to downtown and is generally cheaper. Very little prop traffic based there and no flight school. However a lot of trainers from Denton and Mecham come there for insturment aproaches.

Other than that, it's a moderately busy airport with a hub for FedEx, mx facility for AA and bell helicopters.

Not sure about the govt thing, but there is a large FedEx hub, AA mx facility (i believe for 767 and 777), Bell helicopter training, and they are doing types for the Phenoms at AFW. Pretty nice FBO with some corporates based there as well. Two long parallels, one with cat 3, and im pretty sure they are extending the main runway in the near future (which is already at around 9000'). A lot of military fighter traffic including some T-1's (beechjet) which are always parked on the ramp. Alliance gets VERY busy around NASCAR races due to the close proximity to Texas Motor Speedway but otherwise the ramp and traffic seems slow.

Although owned by the city of Ft Worth; Alliance is not a government run airport. It is managed by Alliance Air Services (which I'm guessing is part of the Ross Perot empire).

Excellent. Any information you could find on KDTO, U.S. Flight Academy will be much appreciated. I did stop by the school and drop of my resume. It appears to be very healthy and expanding. Thanks for your help!

You might send a PM to PopAviator- he used to instruct in DTO. He can give you the 411 on what's going on there.

I suggest you do so- some of the schools seem to have issues. Then again, that's second hand knowledge on my part.
