Former NFL star says he flies on Spirit Airlines to save money

This minute and a half video is pretty funny.

Why am I buying a $50k watch? You just gave me the time for free.

I'd take Spirit's Big Front Seat over regular domestic economy any day to be honest. That said, I actually don't fly Spirit if I can't get BFS lol. But that's also because here in the Bay Area it also means going out of my way to fly out of OAK. The prices for BFS are almost always less than exit row or extra legroom seating on Frontier, yet it is a much better product. Last time I flew Spirit MSP-LAS-OAK, it was $98 after BFS upgrades. Even Sun Country was like $160 one way before fees to SFO that day.

Laptop, space for my carryon to easily fit negating the need to pay for it, and snacks and a mountain dew to spike with vodka bought on board. The simple things.

I have never bought a ticket on spirit and never will. The only time I've flown spirit my employer bought the tickets and I didn't have a choice. They don't even have seat back pouches. You have no where to put anything. It's this elastic criss crossing strap which makes no sense. Never again.

Oh the manatee. Our only option for LA-PIT nonstop is Spirit and for DTW it’s Spirit or Delta. Delta is 3-4x the cost. We’ve been using Spirit for years and have miles on them (one way trip in December was free for family + 5.60 sec fee).

For us, it’s the convenience of the nonstop. With young kids it just makes it so much easier. Yes, Spirit has better pricing but you have to know the rules (eg, max weight checked bag is 40 lbs).

What do you need seat back pockets for? It ain’t for your trash.

My ipad, phone, drink. I don't know why they wouldn't put seat back pockets on their planes. It's not saving weight. Makes no sense to me and I look forward to jetblues takeover final product.

Oh. They got that mini seatback tray thingy right? I actually like the size of that. Small, compact, no nonsense.

To answer that question, I *believe* (could be wrong) is because with a 28” pitch on an A320, a regular seat back pocket would protrude and hit everyone in their knees/legs. The nylon straps are there just to legally hold the safety instruction card. And they throw their drink/snack info, and I think barf bag.

I’ll be honest - with a 28” pitch, I wouldn’t want a proper seatback pocket. That’s just more padding that will stick into my knees. Regular seats that are 31-32”? Sure. But not Spirit.

To be fair, every ULCC I've been on except Avelo Air has that.

A good buddy of mine and former colleague at TPA who is Black shared with me a secret - a secret that is equal parts horrifying and ingenious.

He says Black men fly Southwest because if they find another Black man on the plane, each takes either the window or the aisle. Why? Because (according to him, don't shoot the messenger), nobody is taking the middle seat between them.

Like I said, absolutely awful. And tragically, it makes sense as a strategy.

That’s a common strategy for white people, too. Nobody wants a middle seat regardless of who the other two people are.

UPDATE THE GREEN BOOK!

I’ve never had a need to fly on Neddinair yet, but I note that Ochocinco is 6’1" and ~200 lbs. If he’s comfortable, good for him and Spirit.

Edit: I can imagine a scenario where what Murder Donut describes is when boarding gets down to groups F and U that the remaining middle seats might become populated disproportionately based on the neighbors. But as a person whose body is built to efficiently occupy the dimensions of 103% of the volume allocated for a “1H cargo station,” I must concede any experiential observations.

I found this just this week. A husband and wife had intentionally booked the window and the aisle. I guess they were rolling the dice on nobody actually booking it (pretty good odds, I guess, since nobody actually had booked it). I dumped my non-rev 13 year old between them as I walked by to my seat 12 rows further back. They offered him the aisle seat with a quickness.

Oh, and Delta's full wifi (which is strong enough to stream) is now entirely free.
